Economist Jim Stanford says food prices are increasing faster than other consumer goods, and show no sign of slowing down. He attributes food inflation to climate change, the war in Ukraine and food companies making record profits.

As a small farmer I can tell you what the problem is. Our country sold out small farms across the country to big foods/ag under the guise of these green policies that target individual citizens and farmers disproportionately compared to large corporations. We are now as economically backwards as our southern neighbors.

Broken system, dishonest politicians and bureaucrats, and we pay the price.

They should open the market to European budget grocery store chains like Aldi and LIDL. Break monopoly and tackle the price gauging/food inflation. Double win.

This is illegal & criminal. Soon we will be hearing about harder sentences for criminals stealing food to survive.

I live in Colorado. My wife comes home from the grocery store with 3 bags of groceries.... cost total insanity and the greed by the supermarkets and food manufacturing companies is pure evil.

Hi! Thanks for explaining food prices. It is outrageous that food costs so much. I hope that you will do reports that provide more explanations. #affordability

I live in the U.S. and I use coupons and sales in different stores to keep my cost of products down. It is time consuming, but so worth it. Also, I use rebate apps.

Don't worry guys we are getting a cheque soon it will cover about .1 precent of the inflation on food for the year. No idea when we will get it though. Probably not until Food goes up a few more times so the value of that too will deminish

Canada is more than capable of supplying its own citizens with fresh produces. Why is Canada is relying on produces from the US or wheat from Ukraine?

I stopped supermarket shopping and going directly to the greenhouses and farmers markets and growing food myself. The more people shop locally and stop supermarket shopping altogether, it will then drop prices. The problem with supermarkets is when they make record profits, like during the pandemic, they have to keep pleasing shareholders afterwards, so continue to jack up prices. The stock market is the bane of society. Food and utilities should never be traded on stock markets.

There isn't enough competition among grocery stores. Most are owned by one of the big chains: Loblaws, Metro or Sobeys. Even stores such as Provigo, Super C and Maxi are owned by one of those three.

The carbon tax does not help in lowering food prices.
