Born out of the playgrounds of New York City, the “And 1 Mixtape Tour” took streetball to the masses, challenging convention and picking up a team of basketball misfits along the way. “The Rise and Fall of AND1” traces the journey of how three young friends with a dream of bringing greater acclaim to the game they loved, connected with the underground artform of streetball, and ended up flipping the billion-dollar basketball industry on its head. AND1 co-founders along with streetball legends The Professor, Hot Sauce, Skip 2 My Lou, The Main Event, Shane the Dribbling Machine and more reflect on their experience and the brand's journey.

I remember when the first And1 mixtapes started circulating. Everyone would be like "did you see what such & such did on that mixtape?!". These dudes went from being streetball legends to household names for many of us basketball fans. They owned the Summer. I watched the ESPN 30/30 on these guys, but Netflix has been killing it with their documentaries as of late. Hyped to see this!

This was pretty much the last bit of real culture the youth had in its day before social media and video games reeeeally got a hold of them. We would play on average 4 hours a day on school days and weekends 12+. Its what we had, it earned respect, it was our culture and identity. We idolized every move these guys did and practiced everything religiously.

Now 35 years old, i pick up a basketball maybe once a year and embarrass the new generation of kids and get idolized by them for it. On the flip side, its also partly why i don't like to play anymore... this culture was so much about making the other person look bad and such that it just doesn't sit right in my stomach anymore. Id rather just practice some handles and shoot around for an hour by myself tbh.

Kids these days will lock in 2000+ hours on things like fortnight or valorant or whatever... Pretty much every teen boy back in those days logged 3x those hours on street ball. It is what it is, The preferred crafts and heroes always change with time.

Shit was unreal back when I was a kid. Nobody had ever seen anything like it. The moves were alien almost. It took bball to another level and inspired a whole generation of ballers.

I was obsessed with these dudes 20 year ago. I’d watch season 1-2 double disc on repeat while lifting weights at home. OH BABY!!! 😂

What’s crazy is they got this big without the social media era that we are in today… I could only imagine how big they really could have been and how many more people that would of been able to see them. This was like the next big thing when I was growing up outside of Jordan talk

Something like And1 would thrive in today's social media era.

And1 mixtape era was the best era to live in. Hot sauce, springs, helicopter, Escalade (RIP), and the professor. The And1 era is something we won’t never see again.

HOT SIZZLE! Man, in the early 2000's my friends and I (white and Asian guys) used to pull these moves on unsuspecting pickup players throughout courts of Oakland/San Fran CA with great effect. Nothing is better than a through the legs, fake drive hesitation, cross-over blowby... leave the defender confused for the easy layup. What a time. These guys are still legends in my book. 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Wow, this takes me back to the 90s! I remember these guys were wild on and off the court! As a kid playing basketball I would try and fail to copy their fancy moves. I can't wait for this to drop. It will be like The Last Dance, a good walk down memory lane.

This bring back memories. After school everybody would watch this daily and everybody would try the moves the next day in gym.

I was captivated by the flair of the players

Bro this brought back the good old days. Original hip hop, moves out of this world and the era that unfortunately died. AO, Headache, Hot Sause, Half Man Half Amazing, Skip to my Lou and many others. One of the most amazing things that happened to streetball. So excited to see it!

i grew up watching this and buying each mixtape then hitting the court trying to imitate them, fortunaly was from the EU, to all those who managed to see live matches, you guys have written history, including the asia tour! Man, that was for me the best time in streetball I will never forget how much and1 impacted my life, was so sad to see it go down, but i hope for a comeback. you never know!
