It’s about time!!! Treat everyone especially the most marginalized people like inmates with dignity and have access to programs for rehabilitation so everyone in society benefits. We all have made mistakes and everyone deserves a second chance in life if a prisoner has demonstrated he or she is fully rehabilitated..someone whose been in prison for over 20 or 30 years for crimes they committed as a young adult seems beyond incomprehensible..why are we a the most free country in the world with the biggest prison population..it is absurd to say the least and it’s about time we fix this injustice now

Prison reform is the way to move forward, they need college degrees, and jobs without being discriminated. Thank you President Trump!

this along with mental health issues is a huge problem and congrats to trump for just recognising it

i remenber last year a state govenor stopped university students going to a prison and helping inmates
with just basic reading & writting skills - shameful

"contribute to communities" after prison means once a slave always a slave

The only prison reform i want to see is
1) lower cost per prisoner in California by 50%
2)the removal of tv, 1st run movies, weights and weight lifting equipment.
3) all prisoners get the minumum climate appropriate bedding nothing extra.
4)no prisoner gets any more then any other prisoner no exceptions to eleminate any reason/excuses for violence based on envy or jealousy.
5)if an inmate wants time off his/her sentence they MUST complete and graduate from higher education like high school diploma, college degree or trades.this excludes life sentences.
6)SENTENCES ARE TO BE SERVED IN FULL unless higher education and behavior requirements are met with no exceptions.
7)inmates serving life sentences get nothing but the minimum reguired to sustain life to complete sentences...NO EXCEPTIONS.
This is just for starters.prison should not be comfortable living, ITS A PRISON FOR PEOPLE THAT MADE DELIBERATE CONCIOUS DECISIONS TO VIOLATE THE LAW AND SOCIETAL NORMS OF DECENT BEHAVIOR.
