Traditional Croatian food in Zagreb, Croatia | DELICIOUS Croatian food the LOCALS are eating

We're in Zagreb, Croatia! Zagreb is the capital city of Croatia and is situated inland. Croatia's food culture is very regional and in this 2 part series we aim to show you dishes from Zagreb but also of the surrounding regions.

This video is all about traditional Croatian dishes and eating them in local restaurants. We eat bean stew and ribs and boiled beef at a local spot in the suburbs which features a changing daily lunch menu and then take you to the most popular shop in town for burek. Burek although of Turkish origin is a really popular snack here in Croatia (it harks back to the Ottoman times which explains why you will see this dish in most countries in this region). Lastly we take you for a traditional Croatian lunch of Slavonian Čobanac (Shepherd's stew from the Slavonia region) and Zagrebački odrezak (Croatian cordon bleu). We hope you enjoy this Croatian food tour in Zagreb, Croatia! #croatianfood #croatia #croatianfoodtour

What we ate and where we ate it:

1. Grah (bean stew) and rebrica (ribs) and Lešo Junetina (boiled beef) at Kod Šime, Martićeva ul. 62, 10000, Zagreb, Croatia. Open Monday to Saturday 8:00am to 11:00pm. Get there at lunch time to catch the daily menu.

2. Burek at Dolac 9, 10000, Zagreb, Croatia. Open Monday to Friday 6:00am to 6:00pm, Saturday and Sunday 6:00am to 3:00pm (or thereabouts)

3. Zagrebački odrezak (Croatian cordon bleu) and Čobanac (shepherd's stew) at Pri Zvoncu, Ul. Vrbik XII 1, 10000, Zagreb, Croatia. Open Monday to Saturday 11:00am to midnight.

We’re Thomas and Sheena, food and travel fiends. We travel full time, hunting for the BEST local food in the world to showcase via our YouTube videos. Food is a window into a country's culture and one of the most exciting ways to get to know a place.

We're all about eating what and where the locals eat. You won't find food that's been created merely to be social media worthy on here- no rainbow bagels, gold leaf soft serves- just genuine, authentic food that tastes incredible.

From street food to mom and pop restaurants, we want to show you the best and most authentic food we find on our travels.

As someone from Zagreb, I really appreciate your other videos more now. It might not make sense, but knowing how much research went into this one (cause these places are not your typical tourist spots) make me think you do the same for other cities too. Thanks for literally chasing the plate.

I make Grah about once a week all through winter, a massive pot. Each child (so there are no fights) gets their own smoked hock (i use hock, smoked ribs are harder to come by in rural Australia). If there is any left over the next day, i just heat it up again and add carrots and pasta in it...it becomes another hearty, filling meal and this way nothing goes to waste. I also make a similar dish that is not so common, its cabbage and potato with either ribs, smoked hock or even just kransky's ....kids love it, with fresh crusty bread. Also, if we have left over mash potato, the next day i fry up onion and mix it in with the potato. you wouldnt know it was mash from the day before and it is delicious....waste not, want not. It was great seeing how much you enjoyed such simple, rustic, traditional Croatian dishes...thank you.

I’m half English half Croatian and I want to say thanks for actually choosing food we eat for once. Most other youtubers use unknown things even we don’t know about

I'm glad you had čobanac! It's a delicious thing, especially when slow-cooked outside in a cast iron pot, hung from a tripod, over a nice wood fire.

Three meats are usually pork, beef/veal and some game like venison or boar meat.
There is also Fiš Paprikaš, aka Fish Paprikash, which is quite similar, usually a few kinds of river fish in a paprika based stew, quite spicy, served alongside homemade pasta.

Thank you, for advertising Zagreb / Croatia in this way. I couldn't ever imaggine, foreigners would have such positive and honest opinions about my Home Town. I left Croatia in " dark times of communisms ". I left my home town in 1968 as 15 year old teenager. I am in australia ever since. For me, this is > Hrvatski preporod " Croatia born again. God bless you all, thank you for tourists to acknowledge our herstory, culture, our way of life.
