Pacing is arguably the most important quality of a great edit, but it's complicated as hell and varies from project to project. This week I'm sharing a huge arsenal of editing techniques I've found to contribute to good pacing, and things to look for with your own edit. I'm also sharing my favorite tutorial intro to date. Hope you enjoy and learn something!

Such a crucial topic not often talked about

Love the pacing explanation! I noticed it’s one of the least talked about on YouTube for film making tutorials aside from a boatload of channels only offering tutorials on transitions, b-roll, color grading, how to do this effects, etc

I said it when you started uploading videos and I'll say it again: You're very good and have a unique style. Please, if you ever feel the urge to follow the trends in YouTube film making, just don't do it. Let us see raw Aidin Robbins all the way. Thanks for keeping the uploads coming.

them: "are you a professional film-maker?"
me: "no, but i've watched Aidin Robbins' tutorials several times"

These r the professional tips ... which r very useful for a editor...above all i will just add..
- if the story demands it, then u can break all the rules.. and using these techniques creatively with the story is what nakes a good editor.

What impresses me is this guy is so young. I have been in the game for over 20 years and I do not know how he can understand so much yet there are so many who have been in the game for 40 years but do not understand this level of stuff. 10/10

Easily the most informative tutorial I've seen yet. Just jam packed with great tips and techniques. Went straight to my saved list. Loved the video btw. NYC has a special place in my soul. I don't live there but travel there frequently. Love the city and all those who call it home! Thanks dude and keep up the amazing work!

the change of music from the first sequence to the second one, the pacing is organic man, loved it. aside from tutorials, good works and efforts behind them teaches the best. i find Brandon Li a master of sequencing and pacing - multiple sequences, gradual build up, cinematic af -all these packed into one whole story, an essence that lingers even after watching his works. I love how you are approaching to multiple sequences and weave them into a story these days.

Your insight is amazing and inspirational. You've helped me to identify so many things that I felt were "wrong" - but I was not seeing them clearly - you hit them spot on! I am pretty sure that my videos will improve dramatically because of the MANY things you've taught me. I am immensely and forever grateful to you for that. Cheers! (btw - your videos go into my "Best of the Best" saved folder!)

You have got to be one of the best short film makers on Youtube. I don't say that just to blow smoke. You have a creativity and a thought process that is super unique. Thanks for putting out these tutorials. It's helping me to think differently about the way I see things, how I put them together. I may only film heavy equipment but you're definitely changing the way I go about it.

Unlike a lot of explanatory videos that are still confusing, this one is very understandable for an armature like me.
Great tips’ thank you

Thank you for your advice! It's rare to find such concrete tips on improving your style and pacing, rather than generic tips like "cut on the beat etc"

the sound design was sickkk, really brings the footage to life. I would love to know how you captured the sounds and how you balanced them with your background music. great work as always!

Great information Aidin. Very much appreciated, perhaps in another video you can be editing a video and showing examples of pacing on an actual clip. I know it would be helpful to me.
