Sorry but who in their right mind hikes in 114* heat without adequate water?

So sad. I had a close call myself being a new hiker. I made the mistake of biking to the trails, hiking for a couple of hours, then biking back. About 10mins from home things went bad. Now, I always check the weather, I load up on water and carbs the day and night before, and definitely have water the day of. Just thankful I’m still here to type this.

How terrible. I think many people just don’t comprehend or prepare themselves and often their pets ( not relatable to this ) for extreme heat and humidity.

Here in Arizona most folks tend to avoid hiking in....110/120 degree heat. It ain't rocket science.

hiking in the desert during late summer is a terrible idea. i wish someone had convinced these people not to go. best we can do is do our best to not let it happen again

Wait!? Did you say the San Mateo county sheriffs office? Last time I checked, the city of Santa Barbara is located in Santa Barbara county.

That is really frightening. He shouldn’t have gone hiking 🥾 in the extremely hot 🥵 weather. It would’ve been much better to stay put indoors.

Too many people die from not being prepared for the environment, weather its desert or mountains, water is crucial, #1 priority to surviving. Sorry for your loss.

Please let their lives and death mean something: A warning! Don't hike when it's this hot! Use your head because none of us are immortal!

Some pople don’t read the news. There have been two cases of people succumbing to heat stroke in the past couple of years. Do not go hiking in hot weather. When you do hike, take sun protection and plenty of water.

This is just the most tragic case. It should not have turned out like this This area there is only one direction he could head for water and that was where his body was found 20 ft from the highway 101 by the tunnel. There is a rest stop near and a little store at Gaviota beach further down. Literally the only place for water And so why was the search not in that direction. From where he left the girlfriend to where the only water to be found and he was found there but four days later. Why. I can’t believe it he might have been found alive. This wasn’t so hard they just didn’t listen. This was not excusable. It isn’t that big of an area and the trail is Where he was on and going toward the only water source around. So with all that they searched every other place but where was obviously the right one. Now any local should know this area and no reason to go off back in the open fields when he wasn’t going to go that way It’s questionable the iq of the people heading this search as it was so easy to figure and he was found that direction going for water the only place and direction water. Could be found

Am I the only one that takes a backpack full of survival gear, every time I go out on a trail or in the mountains ??

I don't understand why people decide to go hiking when it's record-breaking Heat ?
They could have gone swimming ... they could have gone and done other things that would not subject them to such brutal heat and also the danger of getting lost on Trails during harsh weather .
When will people take extreme weather seriously and when will they respect Mother Nature and know that hiking can lead a person to their death if they don't know what they're doing .

I hike all the time and carry water in my backpack and also ice packs in a cooler with drinks and food. I know, people think that's very strange nowadays--because picnics are silly to today's hiker? But after hiking in hundred degree weather, and seeing people watch as I enjoy ice cold beverages with pure envy, I wonder if people should take a lesson from me. But yeah, they laugh at my cooler--there's nothing strange about it, not especially big, but carries six cans and two tupperware cases for fruit and Sushi, along with the ice to stay cold for six hours.

Be SMART people - when out in the Urban Killing Fields, ARM your self with Some sort of protection.
Firearm, knives, machete, tomahawk, taser, pepper spray, Cell Phone...
Take SOMETHING !
