Consumers Not Happy With Electric Smart Meters

Electric services across the state and country have transitioned to Advanced Meter Infrastructure, or Smart meters, and not all consumers have seen them as an improvement.

The most concerning part of this story is that she opted out of the smart meter and agreed to pay the additional monthly charge. Then when she wasn't home the smart meter was installed. Was it a simple mix up with the service techs not knowing she opted out, or was it something more dark?

These meters are so smart that mine is switched with some other persons meter from a completely different state. Now when that random person doesn't pay their bill, my power gets shut off!

Companies are manipulate the meters. Does anyone consider that smart meter allows the power company to speed up your meter! That is why alot of people are saying the smart meters are reading more or faster.

If they install one when you are out, and you said you don't want one...that should amount to criminal damage?

I'm in NW Ohio (AEP) On the website, they said anyone is able to "opt out" but may have to pay a monthly fee. They had the estimated instillation dates for various cities and that they would send out a letting 2 weeks prior to instillation with information about the process.


We never received anything and one day out of the blue they show up in our neighborhood. They put a paper in the door and go about installing the meters without any consent.


Fortunately my wife stays at home with our children and she knows me and told them we were opting out. (I had already previously called them and told them this. So this is the second time...you would think they would get the point.


3 months later...she notices another truck parked on our street as she is just getting home and another person from AEP was just about to try and install their little smart meter. SHe again told them we opted out...they made a phone call and said something was mailed to me (yesterday)...but they went on their way.


This is getting ridiculous...

If you have an airbnb, vacationers are going to ask if the place has a smart meter then ultimately rent the place that doesn't. Goodbye rental income. No one wants smart meters. Marin County in California has put moratoriums on them.

At the end of the segment that news lady just spouted some statement from the power company about them only being able to monitor your usage in real time. They can tell if you're home or not. It's called analytics. It might take a certain amount of time but they could tell just by your usage.

From Canada we had a digital smart meter installed without notice too…when I discovered it, within a week I had my analog back, I demanded it and filled out an opt out form. Told my friend nearby and he did the same thing.

I opt out but no longer get charged monthly fee they without notice changed my good running analog for an updated analog but I feel it’s a smart meter with analog dials cause no fee now, sleep disturbed every 3 hours, got tinnitus, get neck pains too. Sdge broke my padlock ignored no trespass signs, second time cut padlocks at my place. This company is ruthless, we should start a class action case against them. Also charge me by tiers how if no smart one do they know hours of use? I get dry hair, itchy skin, every time I plug radio into any home outlet it gives noisy static buzz sounds cannot hear the talk host voice even. It’s a nightmare the harms. Feedback please.

I REALLY WANT SOMEONE TO DEVELOP, AND SELL A DEVICE THAT CAN BE SIMPLY PLUGGED INTO ANY OUTLET< AND IT WILL GENERATE AN ENDLESS STREAM OF "DIGITAL NONSENSE< THAT WILL TOTALLY CONFUSE IT, AND, THUS, TOTALLY RENDER THE "SMART METER" INTO A "DUMB-METER", THAT CANNOT TELL WHAT IS "REAL", AND WHAT IS "FAKE" DATA, TO REPORT BACK TO "THEM"!!!....

There are questions I have about the reliability of smart meters I have some background in instructions an the biggest problem with the ability of smart meters in industrial meters has been static electricity lightning. It does an will change the calibration of instruments. The accuracy goes out the window. When I asked this question on the other channels provided by the company’s that test I get shutdown it won’t take my question so did I hit a nerve . We are more likely being take for a ride this a question that needs to asked and demands independent review.

Let's look at why we need TIN FOIL HATS.
#1 A smart meter will hurt or even KILL disabled homeowners who have disabled medical implants.  The average of deaths by smart meter radiation and smart meter fires is almost 100 every month in North America.
#2 Did you know if your power company “turned off” the power to your home when they did a smart meter install, your chance of a smart meter fire increased by a factor of 10, 000.
#3 Your power company has access to all of you private power information. Eg When you make tea, when you turn on your alarm etc. This private information is sold to Google for huge sums of money. Ask your power company what the second radio transmitter in your smart meter does. (ZigBee)
#4 A smart meter will cause cancer to return if your family members who are fighting cancer at home. If they come home from the hospital and sleep near a smart meter, they will die. Check with the US Cancer Society website.
#5 Smart Meter RADIATION will turn off breakers in your home. Both AFCI's and GFI's get turned off by the radiation from the smart meter.
#6 You smart meter is very accurate, BUT, the software (firmware) is programmable. Your bill has nothing to do with the power you use.
#7 Smart meter radiation is breaking Ionic Bonding.
#8 A huge expenditure for a huge loss. Billions of dollars to purchase something that does not general generate any power and each smart meter need 4 watts to operate. One million smart meters use 4, 000 KILOWATTS of energy to operate.
#9 The second radio transmitter is for ZigBee. If you want your power company to MONITOR your home 24/7, then you are in luck. Don’t forget, this private information will be sold. Why do you think your power company spends BILLIONS of dollars and does not generate one watt of extra power to sell?

What I did was install mirrors on the inside of house behind smart meter that deflect allot of it look on your street poles at intersection red lights see all the new equipment that also has something to do with it

She's concerned about radiation from her smart meter but has no idea what her cell phone is doing to her health.
