That mentality of "I suffered so others should have to suffer in the same way" is so childish and pathetic. It's holding us back from improving as a society.

Could not agree more. Both in MMOs and in real life.

Every time you think kids have it easy these days, try to remember... that's a good thing. Why would you want the lives of people to be harder?

"I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy. My sons ought to study mathematics and philosophy, geography, natural history, naval architecture, navigation, commerce, and agriculture, in order to give their children a right to study painting, poetry, music, architecture, statuary, tapestry, and porcelain."

In real life, MN just made in-state tuition free for low-income families. My family would have qualified, so I definitely felt jealousy that I could've avoided a boat load of debt, but im glad the state made the change. My nieces might have a chance at avoiding crippling debt

My suffering is why I don't want others to suffer the same.
Debt, hunger, housing, quests, etc.

I so agree, people who hold to that view are terrible inconsistent with it. They don't realise they take for granted that they don't have to do many hardships that others used to have to do in their daily lives before them. Ask them if they want to only have subsistance farming for food, or to empty their own latrine by hand and they'll say no.

So many people think suffering is the same as being challenged and it's not. Suffering makes you a bitter person that feels awful for what you had to push through while being challenged makes you greatful for the thing you just conquered.

As the world changes there's always going to be new struggles you don't have to face but your kids do so don't add your struggles onto it.

The problem with boomers is they had to work hard in an ecinomy where one full time job could net you a house in your 20s and then judge the younger generation when we have to stack up in apartments that cost more than their houses did with multiple full time jibs to barely scrape by.

My parents experienced hunger, living in a house made out of mud and wood, the last days of a dictatorship. I never did.

They taught me to be gentle, to care for others, to work hard.
I'm now studying Biomedical Engineering.
An easier life isn't the problem, not knowing how to raise a child in easier times is.

This is why people who think student debt is……. good….. are just insane

As one of the FFXIV players who started before Shadowbringers, and had to go through the infamous 105 quest slog, I'm *all for* reworking sh*t quests

I think the problem is that people conflate "I need to warn them about the bad stuff so they don't make the missteps my generation made" with "the only way to do that is be dour and guilt trip them."

"When I was your age I had to walk 200 kilometers each day to school, so why are you complaining about X?"

"WELL MAYBE THAT'S BECAUSE I HAVE OTHER PROBLEMS NOW THAT YOU DIDN'T HAVE???"

That's med school in a nutshell: back in the day it was hard as hell (in reality it was easier by numbers, much less people studied it so universities made sure everyone had some support and understanding, now you're just a number) so teachers make everything as hard as possible because 'that's what we had to pass'

Clearly, the only right answer is that we can't improve things for future people until time travel is invented. That way, when we find a better way, we can go back to the beginning and implement the better way for everyone. Until then, suffering for everybody! No fixing things because that's not fair!
