In the span of just a few generations, Americans have become obsessed with the way we eat. But while some of us are surrounded by farmers markets and Whole Foods outlets, some experts argue that a large percentage of the population is unable to afford or access healthy food. Can organic foods, GMOs, and greater access to fresh food save us? For the answer, we turn to a panel of experts, featuring Frederick Kaufman, Danielle Nierenberg, and Katherine Mangu-Ward.

I'm sorry but in 2015 it's ludicrous to me that someone wouldn't know consuming a 64 oz. soda is bad for him/her.

Since 95 and the internet boom. I would argue that the rate of people who work at a desk 8 hrs a days is major contributor to obesity.

A bunch of rich people talking about the eating habits of the poor. Genius!

"Fast" food. The fast is important. Don't have to cook it, don't have to spend time cooking it. Poor people... don't have time (because they have several jobs, ...).

"US is the most obese country on earth" Within the first 20 seconds a massive myth is reinforced. The US is not the most obese on earth, Heck Mexico has a larger obesity problem than the US.

So, I'm quite surprised that this entire segment had nothing on gardening or growing your own food. I know not everyone can stop everything and start a farm (nor do I think that we should), but even growing some herbs in a small pot on your kitchen sink can change your mindset and behavior with food, let alone your health.

And these "Business of Life" segments are really formulaic, and boring. One person to make a flamboyant scene then in a cliche way appeal to everyone's emotions... The other two with viewpoint A and anti-viewpoint A

I wish that this show was a little longer and not edited down as much. This is the internet, why can't my show be 37 minutes or 51 minutes? It seemed like a lot of the productive conversations were trimmed to fit an arbitrary time slot.

If GMO's are okay, then why do the GMO companies, like Monsanto or ConAgra, lobby so hard to suppress research, not label their items as GMO or even to say anything negative against GMO?

Also, I LOVE this open discussion type platform. Reminds me of TEDx talk, but with audience involvement. Great job #VICENEWS!

I just want to point out that what people put in their bodies does affect other people, in the sense that if you are overweight or obese that leads to health problems which the government will pay for. And if there are taxes on cigarettes, why not on sugar filled drinks and other health hazards?

assuming we have farmers markets nearby with better hours. Lets be real, we all don't work at the same time. Some towns I'm able to get to a farmers market (more verity) and not all are expensive but some are obviously targeting the affluent and inflate their prices. These are the ones that get featured a lot so most of us are thought that farmers markets are that fancy stuff for rich people.

I live in San Francisco, one of the most expensive cities in the country.

In bulk I can buy dried black beans for $1.29/lb, brown rice for $1.50/lb, in season veggies for $0.50 to $1.50 per pound (squash, peppers, cabbages, tomatoes, onions), which form the staples for a very healthy diet.   Cook up two weeks worth of beans and Spanish rice at a time, and freeze it in baggies.   Mix it up with potatoes, whole wheat bread, some nuts.   Simple dishes like lentil soup are ridiculously cheap and healthy and you can cook a shit ton of it to freeze.   Throw in a some chicken, eggs for extra protein.

Eating healthy is NOT expensive or time consuming.   People are just too lazy and ignorant and addicted to their fatty/salty/sweet/expensive processed food.

This discussion was infuriating to listen to! So much disinformation, stereotyping, and prejudices stated as fact without clarification! ugh! Thumbs down!
