Arty guy here, direct fire against armor is fun to watch. It’s fun to do direct fire for arty because we usually don’t see rounds hit. During CAX at 29 Palms we would have Direct Fire contests with other Regiments to see what regiments would get a 96 hour time off after getting back to Pendleton.

Yeah @kagan.dunlap, those articles cover the DEFENSIVE reason for howitzers as direct fire artillery, but there is an OFFENSIVE reason as well, dealing with a hardened target that requires more "oomf" than a 120 APFSDS or HEAT round can handle
