Intel today announced its Alder Lake Core i9-12900K, 12700K, and 12600K & KF CPUs, which are intended to compete with AMD's Ryzen 5000 (Zen 3) desktop CPUs.

Intel today announced its official specs, pricing, and release date for the Intel Core i9-12900K, Core i7-12700K, and Core i5-12600K. As of now, the company hasn’t officially announced the i5-12400 or other variations (aside from the 12900KF, 12700KF, and 12600KF without the IGP). The core counts are the most interesting, since Intel is splitting between performance cores and efficient cores, but frequency also gets light detailing. The most obvious competitors will be the 12900K vs. the 5900X (et al.), the 12600K vs. the R5 5600X, and the 12700K versus a pile of sand (the 11700K and 5800X).

Dell should be happy with these new CPUs. The smaller cores will keep the bloatware running in the background!

Lol I love the sauce. “Intel spent a couple years dismissing benchmarks so we’ll dismiss their results”

Steve: The i9 is a great big "F-SKU" from Intel.
Intel: Thanks Steve.

An "F-Sku" badge is now needed. It can take its place with "Better than Dell", "Its Fine" and "Its Technically Fine"

“We’re not gonna bother showing benchmarks numbers because Intel spent a few years dismissing benchmark numbers” LOL

Really interesting to see the difference in coverage between GN and LTT. You guys are a lot more reserved about it, which is probably warranted given we don't have reliable benchmarks yet.

It really makes me annoyed that other reviewers are showing Intel's benchmark numbers after they went on a war against them when they were on the back foot vs. AMD. Props to GN for calling them out on it here!

Honestly? I want Alder Lake to obliterate Zen 3, I want Zen 4 to obliterate Alder Lake. I don't want any one company to continuously hold the crown for more than one product cycle.

"F sku" needs kept as a permanent meme.

I hope they release the Pat Gelsinger edition with "Leadership" etched on top of the IHS and "Thanks, Steve" on the underside

We need in-depth ddr4 vs ddr5 testing on this new platform

With this change in architecture it would have been the perfect time for Intel to change the horrible naming on their product lines.

But Intel is gonna Intel, back to you Steve.

Can we maybe go back to Software Rendering with current GPU pricing? Also:

Review embargo on release day? Sounds like Intel is not that confident on their product unlike the CEO lol

They really do not have confidence in their product if they are not allowing benchmarks till release day. Ryzen must be superior.

Hmm...
Typically when a review embargo is lifted the day the product goes on sale, that means the product is poopy and you shouldn't buy it. Typically.
It's not confidence inspiring to say the least.

Suggestion: If you're throwing around model numbers and prices, it would be great to have them on screen as a table or chart because my brain just shut off because there were too many numbers.

For me, the embargo is about a lack of faith in their product - Intel don't know how it's going to go, and they don't want this new chip to crash in reviews. It's a pretty big "red flag" to say this is more about marketing than technical innovation - because if they truly innovated a fantastic new architecture, it would speak for itself and they wouldn't be afraid of reviews.
