In the fifth and final episode of the podcast series about the Moomin phenomenon, it’s finally time to focus on the creator: Tove Jansson.

So far in this series, hosted by Jennifer Saunders, we’ve heard the Moomin fans, examined if there is such a thing as Moomin philosophy, and we’ve met many people who have been inspired by both Moomin ethics and aesthetics. We’ve also asked ourselves if Moomin has become too commercial. We’ve been to Helsinki, the Finnish archipelago, London, north and south of Sweden and last but not least, Japan! And wherever we’ve travelled, we’ve found a world filled with Moomins.

Now the time has come to look at the creator of the Moomins, Tove Jansson. Even if there have been prolific amounts of extensive academic text about her person, Tove Jansson never wanted to be a particularly public figure. She was at her happiest ensconced on her little island in the archipelago and in her tucked-away studio in Helsinki during the colder months together with her life partner and love, Tuulikki Pietilä. Who was Tove Jansson, and what is her legacy? In this grand finale, Tove’s niece Sophia Jansson invites listeners to her aunt’s famous and mythical studio in Helsinki – where so many Moomin stories and famous works of arts have seen the light of day.

Hey moomin people! I’m a father of 3 young children, I didn’t grow up with Moomin books and cartoons, but I discovered them recently with them. We love your stories, places and characters

When I was 6 or 7 years old, I also asked my mom about the orange peels! And she did not know!! Also, it is amazing how precise the translation was, because I read the book in Russian more than 30 years ago 🙄
