30 years of working with Moomin mugs I Tove Slotte

After 30 years of adapting Tove Jansson´s original Moomin illustrations for the Moomin mugs, illustrator Tove Slotte is now retiring. We visited her studio to find out what it has been like to live with the Moomins for so long, what the process behind the Moomin mugs looks like and the challenges of choosing and recreating the original Moomin illustrations.

I am very proud to say and not ashamed that I'm 47 now and still love the Moomins, right down to the fact that I wear my Moonin socks and use my Moomin coffee mug everyday which you've probably made. What a wonderful gift Tove Jansson gave to the world when she created the Moomins and I'm glad children and adults are still enjoying them in 2023! ☺️👍💕

One of my greatest joys every day is drinking hot tea from my favorite mugs. Such small moments really are special and knowing my favorite Moomin characters can join me is very delightful.

I also hope the Moomin company realizes how much fans love the hattifatteners!! They are my favorite character(s) but it’s really hard to find merchandise of them because it seems like not much is made, especially for the US.
The Moomin Japan store has more hattifattener merch but I am unable to buy it because they don’t ship outside of Japan.

I love those Moomin mugs and in my life, I still don't have one...not even a single one I owned a Moomin mug until now. And that's one of the wishes that I wanted a Moomin mug because not only they are adorable but also comforting, especially whenever I drank hot chocolate, tea or coffee.
