If you watch the movie “Jaws” #shorts

I get this question often: Aren’t you afraid of sharks?

Short answer is nope!

Long answer: Nope! I was among those who were brainwashed by Hollywood to think that sharks were killing machines!

As a kid we were not allowed to watch Jaws, but the poster alone and the way the adults talked about it was enough for me to fear sharks.

It made me afraid to swim in the deeper side of the pool or go too far from the shore because my imagination would play tricks on me. I imagined a shark would come and chomp on my arms and legs!

But scuba diving changed the way I saw sharks. Now, I no longer fear them as much as I did. If anything I get excited seeing them. 🤩

Of course I’d still keep my distance especially if it’s a great white or a tiger shark or a bull shark. They are still apex predators after all and have sharp teeth! But I now know better that they are not evil as the movies depict them to be.

When I watched Jaws for the first time as an adult and a diver, I realized how ridiculously inaccurate it was. It was over the top and I honestly felt bad for how sharks gained its reputation because of this film. It basically molded an entire generation’s view on sharks!🦈🦈🦈

I think it’s about time we change the narrative about sharks. So, the next time you watch some Hollywood film like Jaws or Sharknado or The Meg, watch it in reverse! 😂

Maybe you’ll see that sharks aren’t as scary as you imagined them to be. 🤷🏽‍♀️
