Показать описание
In this medical video animation we will see the procedure to perform upper endoscopy or EGD scopy (esophagogastroduodenoscopy). Upper endoscopy is a test that looks inside the upper gastrointestinal, or GI, tract. The GI tract includes the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum, which is the first part of the small intestine. The test is also known as an esophagogastroduodenoscopy, or EGD. It's done using a tool called an endoscope, which is a long, thin, flexible tube that has a light and a tiny camera. The test helps find problems such as ulcers, infections, or growths.

Hey, you, person watching this. Calm down. I know you're doom scrolling through every page on YouTube because your anxious about your procedure. The worst part was it taking a few tries to get the IV in. I'm a huge wimp when it comes to this stuff. Like, I panic before going to the dentist. This procedure was nothing. Just make sure you're put under for the procedure and not awake. Pick up some ice cream on the way home and you'll be fine.

I was the other day watching this video and nervous about this procedure.
If you are feeling anxious like I was I can tell you to just relax, it was about 20 minutes and when you realize you are already in the recovering room ❤

Thank you, I will try. I've had a number of barium swallow tests, gastric emptying test, acid test and I've had a camera inside as well. I've had 2 stomach surgeries as well so. Plus I have been dealing with breast cancer. Thank you

Just had this procedure done yesterday.
In & out, no pain.
At worst? My throat has been sore.
But a slushie and some cough drops will fix that

Just went through this procedure and the worst part about it was my pre-op anxiety. Ease your mind, you are going to be okay

I"ve had at least 15 EGD and never once did I realized they laid you on your side. Mine are much more complicated than most. I actually have been having them in the OR under general anesthesia. There is usually food in my esophagus NOT in my stomach. I have a stenosis. Probably will need surgery.

Is it common for people to struggle during this procedure? My girlfriend is having this done tomorrow and she's terrified that they won't sedate her enough and she's going to gag and struggle

Just had this done this morning due to reflux issues and it was a simple procedure. I was put under anesthesia instead. Currently throat very sore but that’s expected. Dr. expanded my esophagus.

Hey people, I got this done last year and I’m getting it done again Monday. I’m pretty worried, but there’s nothing to worry about, when I got it done, the worst part was the IV, you get the IV in, you roll your way into the procedure room, you go to sleep, you wake up and your home. no biggie!

I had this procedure done to me without anesthesia about 6 years ago .. I am traumatized to this day

I had to undergo this when I was 14 to determine whether I have celiac disease. As I can recall since it was 10 years ago, it lasted less than 1 minute, but the doctor being able to be done with this in less than a minute is rarity. Usually it lasts 5-6 mins. I didn't get any anesthesia, sedation, I was fully awake. I didn't know which procedure will be done to me because nobody explained it to me. If I knew beforehand, I would probably escape. For me it was traumatic, my throat hurt and I was struggling to breathe. The feeling of having something trough my throat and stomach was absolutely disgusting and difficult. When it was over I felt completely well after an hour. Then I had to undergo this procedure again at 22. They told me I can expect it to last more than 5 mins. When I heard it I gave up and didn't go because I was too scared and traumatised from the first time when I was kid. Where I live they don't put you to sleep because it would take too much time and there's so many patients. I'm not sure if I will agree to undergo it ever again in the future because for me it was just too scary and unbearable.

Hi! It seems there isn't much prep involved to have this procedure. What happens if you have no one to be with you and come alone? Some people are in this situation having no living family or someone they can trust. Would having this procedure with no anesthesia be an option or would it just be cancelled for reasons of liability?

I had one done today along with a colonoscopy. I knew about the mouthpiece, but never felt a thing. I was concerned about it, but it was not bad. I felt more tugging during the colonoscopy. Neither procedure hurt or was painful in any way.

had an upper endoscopy without anesthesia this morning.
started shaking with stress as i entered the gastroenterology department.
drunk a throat-numbing liquid. felt no effect. walked into the exam room.
nurse blamed me for being conscious.
asked how to interrupt the procedure. nurse said raise your hand.
asked how long. nurse said 10mn.
bit the mouthguard. found a spot for my tongue.
nurse inserted the 1cm tube and started pushing.
didn't gag. didn't need to swallow. kept throat relaxed and it went through.
felt an urge to extract the pipe. managed to overcome it and relax my chest.
couldn't breathe. remembered airways were clear. recovered breathing by using belly, not chest.
as pipe pushes in spinning, the feeling is like swallowing a python of infinite length.
or drowning. overwhelming but not painful. no feeling below the throat.
gagged 4 or 5 times after reaching the stomach. each time required mental effort to calm down and breath again.
couldn't help but swallowing saliva. not painful but disturbed breathing too.
after what felt like 1 or 2mn of struggle for self-control, the pipe came out.
numb throat sensation remained for 30mn. then a mild throat pain, then stomach ache in the afternoon.
background: 40 year-old with breathing panic attacks and laryngospasm.
