For anyone wondering. Engine not only go faster but that’s how they slow down. Running props backwards so if engine fails they they will just keep coasting. It’s a lot of weight moving without a way to stop it so he steered it to run ashore.

As compared to a Planned engine failure, An Unplanned engine failure could be devistating

As a truck driver, I knew exactly what he was doing. Thankfully I’ve never had to use a runaway ramp but I know their purpose. Way to save it Capt! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

A bunch of mud is a good place to park a ship, been there and done that as a captain. To be clear, not that particular location though.

So many unsung HEROES: Pilots, captains, truckers, big equipment operators - men with high risk responsibilities on a thin margin of error who are FROSTY and BOLD. REAL MEN.

Wow awesome story. I'm so glad you gave excellent details. I can definitely see why the captain was so courageous

Grounding the ship and/or anchoring it, out of the main channel, would be the best plan of action in a restricted waterway.
It reduces chances of damage to other vessels and gets the passengers and crew close to shore where help is near at hand for anyone who needs it quickly.
It reduces the chance of the vessel being carried into more serious danger by tides, currents and weather conditions.
Obstructing a waterway can cost the ship owners a lot of money.
Fines, penalties, law suits and damages arising can cost a lot more than replacing a bit of metal.

It's better to run a ground than to hit a bridge or another ship.

Yep. And after repairing the engine it can be requested the lift of some cargo. Then the ship will float out during the high rise and be towed away.
