Bryan Adams - Summer Of 69 (Official Music Video)

The "69" reference is often thought to be about the year, but it's not about the year! It's about teen nostalgia, playing in a band and reflecting back on love in the summertime .

Written by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance
Directed by Steve Barron

I got my first real six-string
Bought it at the five-and-dime
Played it til my fingers bled
It was the summer of 69

Me and some guys from school
Had a band and we tried real hard
Jimmy quit and Jody got married
I shoulda known we'd never get far

Oh when i look back now - that summer seemed to last forever
And if i had the choice - ya - I'd always wanna be there
Those were the best days of my life

Ain't no use in complainin'
When you got a job to do
Spent my evenin's down at the drive-in
And that's when i met you

Standin' on your mama's porch - you told me that you'd wait forever
Oh and when you held my hand - i knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life - back in the summer of '69

Man we were killin' time - we were young and restless
We needed to unwind - i guess nothin' can last forever

And now the times are changin'
Look at everything that's come and gone
Sometimes when i play that old six-string
I think about ya wonder what went wrong

Standin' on your mama's porch - you told me it would last forever
Oh the way you held my hand - i knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life - back in the summer of '69
Ya - me and my baby in a 69

I believe that somewhere in the world, there are people who feel the same emotions that I feel when I listen to masterpieces like this song.

Music is such a time machine. It is not the song, rather the memories it touches. Kenny Chesney "I go back" explains that well. Anyway, with this song, I go back. I go back to the 90s. I remember falling in love with my first girlfriend, I remember learning how to drive. I remember my first kiss. I can't listen to this song with out tearing up. The lyrics of "standing on your momma's porch you told me that you would wait forever and when you held my hand" Take me back to my former girlfriend's mothers porch and I remember when she held my hand looked in my eyes and told me she loved me. My gosh what memories music strikes up.

I’m going to leave this comment here so that when someone likes it, I’m reminded to listen to this masterpiece

“I knew that it was now or never” always chokes me up. Some of you will understand, and the rest of you… well, you’ll wish you did.

My mother graduated in 1969, and she said the summer of 69 were some of the best times of her life. RIP mom. Love you

I was nineteen in 1969. Wouldn't trade that time for anything. Those truly were the best days of my life. Every word he sings rings true for me.

First heard this song in 1987... sitting on my motorcycle, on a hill over-looking an amazing beach in Thailand... I could not believe what I was hearing... THIS WAS MY SONG! Had a rock band in the late sixties... and a beautiful girlfriend to sing to... and yes those were the best days of MY life! ... I'm 71, still playing my guitar -and STILL rockin' to this song. Yea! Thank you Bryan!!!

I love how it starts in black and white than changes to color when He says “and now the times are changing”

That line 'Standing on your mama's porch, you told me that you'd wait forever....' Idk why but it makes me so happy that I'm sad. It makes me miss a love I never had
