FYI - Fires of Winter is the prequel to Hearts Aflame by Johanna Lindsey and tells the parents story. There’s also a sequel, Surrender My Love, which tells Selig’s story (the brother). All three books in the series are great, so is Secret Fire, although that’s a stand-alone story, not part of a series.

I get so excited when you mention Garwood, she was my gateway to romance back in the '90s and The Gift was one of my favorites! 😍

All great books. You also need to get your hands on some early Linda Lael Miller. She's fabulous!

I really like The Bride Necklace series (3) by Kat Martin.
Amanda Quick, Julie Garwood and Johanna Lindsey are definite staples on the older HR.
Since you read Heather Graham's, Pirates Pleasure 2 and are going to read Sweet Savage Eden 1, you need to check out the 3rd book in the Cameron series Love Not a Rebel. From there you go to her Cameron Civil War trilogy. She is also known as Shannon Drake. Bride of the Wind has some pirates in it and Every Time I Love You is another good one where the past and the present merge.

Please try something by Judith E French. She writes this genre usually set in the early America time period. Her female characters are so well written.

The series The Gift is in starts with a book called lions lady. The romance leading up to The Gift is called Guardian Angel and it is also a pirate romance.

I love all those Julie Garwood books and the gift goes with four books altogether. There’s definitely a book before this where you meet Nathan and it’s called. Castles. As well as the Lions lady and Castles. Part of her Spies series. I love them almost as much as I love her Highland books.

All of these are all great books! Makes me want to re-read some of them. Deception is my all time favourite of AQ's, the heroine is so fun! Johanna Lyndsey has some great pirate stories. You didn't choose any Jude Deveraux's on your list....the Velvet series by her is a great read. Happy "old school" reading 😉

I read Lion and Lace a long time ago and enjoyed it but I don't remember what it was about. I need to read it again.

I love these old school romances! I actually read them when they were 1st published which gives you a clue as to my age. I have read some on your list but will check out the others. Two I might suggest are Ashes in the Wind by Kathleen Woodiwiss set in New Orleans during and right after the Civil War, and Deceive Not My Heart by Shirlee Busbee set in Louisiana around the War of 1812. Both have lots of historical detail and many real historical figures. I know there is controversy about these older romances, but I miss the character and story development. Always love hearing your recommendations.

So many great choices. I am so happy for you. Delve into the Older Romances. You won't be sorry. Next move onto Small (The Kadin, Love, Wild and Fair, Skye O'Malley), Henley, Canham, Gellis, Deveraux (The Velvet Saga), Mallory Burgess... Happy Reading. :)

So many good ones on this list! Secret Fire was my first Johanna Lindsey read, it’s actually a standalone and I was entertained.

Constance O'Bannon was my favorite author when I was in my teens( I'm 46). You should read September Moon by her.
