So important to make the switch with all the info coming out now about the plastics in our food and in everything. The last thing we need to do is use a plastic cutting board or mat and get more plastics in ourselves.
Thank you for the info. And the the instructions on cleaning and oiling ❣️

And if it's still that much a concern, just have a designated meat cutting board versus for fruit and veg.

I have the cutting board my Grandma and Momma used. It's a wonderful little board, and I will never stop using it.

I agree with using wood cutting boards. However, the issue with cutting meat on any cutting board is cross contamination. I’ve read articles including from the CDC which recommends having one cutting board for raw meat and another for cutting vegetables and fruits.

The CDC/USDA recommends
washing all cutting boards thoroughly with hot, soapy water after each use. Bacteria can thrive inside the wood's pores which may lead to food poisoning. For boards that have touched raw meat, poultry, or seafood, consider sanitizing them with a solution of 1/2 tablespoon unscented bleach per 1 quart of water. Let the boards air dry completely. Discard cutting boards that have deep grooves, cracks, or excessive knife scars, as these can harbor bacteria. Here is the Do’s and Dont’s:

Do: Buy a high-quality (if possible, artisan-made) cutting board in a hardwood, like maple, which provides a more even surface. Softer woods wear out knives and chip tiny wood shards in your food.
Don’t: Cut raw meat or seafood on wood. Wood’s main flaw is that it’s hard to disinfect and can absorb and retain food odors. Veggies, bread, cheese, and fruit are better candidates.
Do: Keep wooden boards dry and oiled with a soft cloth to protect from water and odors. Use food-safe mineral oil or coconut oil.
Don’t: Oil your cutting board with vegetable oil. It can go rancid.
Do: Clean your wooden cutting board with mild dish soap and warm water. Allow the cutting board to air-dry.
Don’t: Clean cutting boards in dishwasher or soak in water.

Yes, I agree with the previous responder. Thanks for the tip. Lot of people are saying it holds bacteria and can spread. So they advertise this titanium type chopping board which I thought was not good for the knife. And who knows, you might get titanium poisoning.

Thanks for the tip about the coconut oil,
I usually use mustard oil.😂It doesn't get rancid because I use my boards every day, I cook a lot.

Fine Woodworking magazine December 2024, issue (312), article page 42 says not to use any sort of oil on your cutting boards. The oil prevents the wood from effectively killing the bad bacteria.

To clean a cutting board well. Soak some peroxide on it for about 30 minutes. Wash with a VERY light amount of dish soap and a regular dish/pan scrubbing brush. And the dry it with a dish towel. This is important. And, Wah Lah, clean cutting board. Throw away your plastic one. Silicone is nice though. Wash Silicone the same as wood.

I use plastic, just line it with parchment paper to avoid microplastics before cutting anything on it. Also saves time cause I don’t have to wash it.

Curious why you use one that is glued together? Not a solid piece of wood
