To all the beautiful immigrants that came through Ellis Island and their children. America is the best becomes it allows you to fulfill your dreams. Listen to this song closely. Your ancestors when they saw the Statue of Liberty had those same reservations. But New York was even more difficult back then. Think about that when you listen to this song. It’s a pocket of dreams, but dreams come from hard work.

I used to sit on the 28th-story balcony on Roosevelt Island and look over into Manhattan in the morning. I'd stare straight ahead and let my peripheral vision take it all in. 500 points of light in windows would turn into 550 in one second, 650 in two seconds, 800 in three seconds 1, 000 in four seconds, 1, 250 in 5 seconds, 1, 550 in 6 seconds, 1, 900 in 7 seconds, etc... - a process that can only be seen in a large city such as NY, maybe 200, 000 people saying good morning/coming to life. At night I'd sneak up to the top of the elevator shaft on the building. I disabled locks in two secure doors. I'd smoke pot and inspire my spirit some. The maintenance guy walked in on me smoking in the electrical breaker room. I'm like, "Hey, what up?" Then he unknowingly locked me on the rooftop. I had to climb down from the 29th floor, drop onto the balcony above where I lived on the 28th floor, climb over that railing, holding onto it and the concrete slab, to get back to my apartment.
