Star Wars just posted a behind the scenes video looking at episode 6 of Skeleton Crew and the stop motion used to bring one of the creatures to life in one of the most impressive effects in the show.

That is one impressive stop motion crab.

As a stopmotion animator, I was very happy to see that they used the animation technique for a modern production, even if it was very brief.

Time and care. The fact that there are still masters of this craft out there is so damned lovely.

Even though stop motion isn't my preferred form of animation, it is very impressive on a technical level, and I have huge respect for the artists that utilize it. Also, the fact that THAT CREATURE was stop motion and it looked that good, is honestly crazy!

My mind was blown when I discovered the giant crab was done in stop motion, reminds me of Ray Harryhausen

I knew/had a feeling the crab was in stop motion even before seeing the behind the scenes clips of it. Stop motion to me generally has a different movement to it than other animation/CGI, it's a little less fluid and slower. I love that stop motion and miniatures still have a place in today's industry

As a guy who grew up on Wallace and Gromit, The Clangers, and other stop motion shows, I will always appreciate the craft and the people behind it.

Stunning scene

I was actually scared of the Mother Crab😂

I immediately noticed the way it moved, but it never occured to me that it was stop motion because as someone who grew up with the original trilogy, stop motion is just part of the "Star Wars Aesthetic" to me 😅

It would be Amazing to see a. Modern Stop Motion monster film. Skeleton Crew has opened the door for so many other styles of film to get green lit. Too often it’s all just green screens and CGI (which has its place for sure), But an Earthworm Jim, or Jason and The Argonauts film with this kind of practical stop motion would be incredible.

Skeleton Crew is on a whole other level for no reason and this show is so good. To bad nobody is watching it apparently...

I like how the movement of the crab was reminiscent of Harryhausen stop motion.

Y'know what, I'd be down for a series that's just about - like - monster hunters in the Star Wars universe. Like the "Galaxy of Creatures" series, but not a young kids series - more intense, just exploring and facing off with all the different beautifully animated monsters around the galaxy The Aphra comics already introduced a couple of cool characters (Nokk & Winloss) who could lead something like that.
