Brighter colours give motorists a better chance of picking you up especially in winter. I like that. Manual only for me.

Bought the Adventure Sports ES with the DCT last week. Already did 1000 kms on it and here are the pluses and minuses:
+ DCT adds tons of comfort
+ Great for touring
+ LED headlights are the best I've experienced so far
+ Engine is more than capable and sounds like a V2
+ Android Auto and Apple Carplay
+ The interface takes some time to get used to but after a while it makes total sense
- Drive mode on the DCT is simply horrendous. I keep it on Sports all the time or just use the manual mode
- Suspension is a bit too soft
- The seat is a nightmare for both rider and pillion
- The horn is a joke, sounds like a bicycle horn
- Wind protection is mediocre

I just completed a 6500 mile around the continental USA on my 2016 AF with DCT. I rode from -282 ft to over 12, 000 ft from freeways with an 80 mph speed limit to switch back mountain trails. I can say without a doubt the DCT never let me down. When I get to the twisties I go manual and use the shifters (more like triggers or mini paddles) to get in the gear I want. No one can shift as fast as the DCT. On single track trails the bike never stalled. Instead of feathering the clutch you need really good accelerator control and I think this is what gets people when riding in aggressive off road situations or when going really slow. I was leery like most of you regarding DCT, but after reading very positive reviews of professional motocross riders who took the DCT on South African trails during the test ride events Honda held many years ago, I bit the bullet and have not regretted it once. Going from a KLR it did take me a while to get used to not having a clutch. But now it's effortless. Even when I hopped on my friend's CRF450 no problem going back to feathering the clutch or shifting gears, but wishing there was a DCT. Now the added weight is another story...

Pearl glare white tricolor is my favorite, probably because it remembers me the Hondas that raced the Dakar in the '80... this means I'm old 😱😄 Thank you for your nice video and info, as usual everything is very interesting.

I’m on my 5th DCT motorcycle on 5 different bikes logging almost 200, 000 miles. It’s a brilliant invention and a Godsend for those of us who can’t use a manual clutch lever, for whatever reason. From the 2010 VFR 1200F to my 2018 Goldenwing DCT, non tour, and in between- a 2012 NC 700X, 16 Africa Twin, 2017 VFR1200X, I have become very proficient in its use. Although not perfect, it’s getting very close to getting there. I’ve had no mechanical issues with any of the DCT’s.
FYI: they do take some time getting used to it, but every time I get on my Goldenwing or VFR, it just blows me away how great the system is! Ride safe…

I have a 2022 ASES w/DCT. It is sublime! I can run it manual mode off road, and D or S mode when on road or the occasional heavy traffic. The fact that the DCT prevents the bike from stalling is a huge benefit when off road as well.

Just now finishing a trip through Norway on my 2020 standard Africa twin with manual gear box and quickshifter. Awesome bike, zero complaints. This type of Riding probably suits the AS the best, I have fitted heated grips and the 12v socket, really a must have..
If I was in the market today I would buy the AS just to get tubeless rims, heated grips and bigger petroltank. For now it feels good to get all the cases off the bike and go down some old dirtroad with the standard AT. 👍

I purchased a brand new 2020 Africa Twin DCT standard model last spring. I was unsure of my choice of the DCT over the Manual box and now a year and a bit later I'm so glad I went with the DCT, the trans is fantastic, low speed control is fantastic! All around the manual clutch is history for me forever. I have many bikes and now I realize just how much I love my DCT AT! Thanks for your channel. I ride northern Canada trails off road, gravel, broken pavement, and highways! Thanks again. Reg

Thinking of changing my R1250gs for a Standard DCT model after a test ride last week the GS is a great bike probably on of the best BUT the DCT is a game changer once ridden you’ll never go back !

Most definitely my next bike, I brought the NC750x DCT this year and love it, DCT Africa Twin is the way forward 🥳

I own a DCT and love it. It is great on road trips and adequately handles cross- country in the desert or forest.

I have a ATAS DCT 2021 model best bike I have had and does every thing really well and the DCT gearbox is fantastic to use. Tri Colour by far the best colour way.

2021 ATAS ES DCT. That's a lot of letters. In sum, this is a 90% motorcycle. It will go almost anywhere on stock tires, tour almost as well as a dedicated touring bike and carry a lot of gear. Mine has been supremely reliable thus far on pavement, groomed dirt, gravel and mildly rutted, moderately rocky single track.
Some observations - the DCT is very well refined on pavement, off road in the tricky stuff, it requires the rider to use manual shifting OR learn to control the DCT via careful manipulation of the rear brake combined with judicious throttle modulation. Once you master the technique you will gain great confidence in that dual clutch gearbox. The rider interface also takes a good deal of time to master - this bike has more buttons (some of them multifunction) than a spaceship. Take your time and learn the interface - it makes a huge difference in customizing or tweaking the rider experience. Alas there are a few negatives, some of which are unsolvable.
First is weight, with loaded panniers, trunk, upper and lower engine guards etc., this bike is Heavy. 🐷 Good for stability on pavement, not so nimble off road.
The sidestand is not confidence inspiring as is the smallish rear brake pedal, both can be enhanced with aftermarket solutions.
The stock seat is awful for long distance touring - not much better off road unless you stand on the pegs most of the time. I replaced mine (with a Corbin) after 1500 miles. A centerstand will be worth the investment for chain maintenance and adjustment. It's optional not standard on this bike. I'm glad I got one. Lastly if your plans include going into mud, sand or deep rough stuff - do yourself a favor and put a good set of off road tires on this bike. You'll need them. Overall I am extremely pleased with my AT. It's a marvelous, reliable and easy to love bike that has taken me places no street bike could have. The DCT and huge fuel tank make long rides effortless and enjoyable for me.

I have had 3 Africa Twins all DCT once you fully get used to the system is fantastic on and off road, I have test both at the Dave Thorpe Adventure centre in Exmoor and even though I have always had bikes with a clutch I preferred the DCT on and off road 👍

I have a Candy Apple red 2017DCT and love it. If I bought again I’d get the Adventure Sport for the tubeless rims, cornering lights and electronic suspension.
Love the DCT but it did refuse to start a couple of times as the box stopped in gear. I believe it’s the battery and I’ll be changing that to avoid being stranded. It would be tough to choose a gearbox next time as I love the DCT but being able to bump start a manual is a big drawcard.

awesome, just what i wanted to see, an off roader off roading not just being reviewed on some two lane road instead of what we would like to see. well done to you!

I have really doubted between this or a tenere world raid. I got the tenere but can’t deny the AT would’ve been an excellent choice too.

Let me preface my comment by admitting that I am a Honda fanboy and I always have been. I have the 2021 base model AT with manual transmission. I love the bike. I opted for the base model because of the Tricolor paint scheme. The Adventure Sports model that year was black and white, and I thought the red, white, and blue looked better. I like the gray color, but I’m so partial to the tricolor scheme, I’d probably still stick with that, if I decided to upgrade to the AS model. Thanks for the video!

I love the AT, but one of the biggest complaints is how complicated the TFT system is. I wish they would update that rather than colors. I’m likely going to wait until Gen II of the 1100 comes out.

I can tell you the DCT models are selling more here in the US, and its because dealerships barely get any manual models in either Standard or Adventure Sport models.
You can wait for 6 months for a manual or walk into a dealership and ride out on a DCT model.
