Billions of cicadas are expected to emerge this spring. The Cicadas will be spotted in at least a dozen states, mostly in the Midwest and Southeast. This year will feature a rare double brood emergence that hasn't been seen since Thomas Jefferson was president and won't happen again until 2245. #cicadas #bugs #2024 #shorts

The Cicadas will emerge when soil temperatures eight inches deep reach 64 °F, likely around mid may and last for about six weeks while cicadas may be loud and there will be lots of them scientists say they are harmless, they won't bite or sting you or your pets... they're even safe for dogs and humans to eat.

I was riding on a school bus on a Kentucky interstate on the way home from a field trip with 40 seven yr olds, we had all the windows down and ran into a huge swarm of them. They were all over the inside of the bus. I had scratches and bruises for days. Not from the cicadas - from the kids panicking.

Summer wouldn’t be the same without the cicadas buzzing.

I love these bugs. Something about the sound they make is nostalgic. Growing up on the farm hearing these things while sitting out in the yard or on the horse with my grandad, eating Popsicles and drinking Dr pepper

They’re harmless until they fly into your ear.

Love the sound of these gentle insects. Reminds me of working in the orange orchards in NSW. They seemed weirdly attracted to the sound of music from my radio 😊

They are harmless but beware of the snakes that come out to eat them

Please don't kill them. Rhey have a small straw like mouth part. So they suck nectar. They dont bite because they cant! They are safe. You can pick them up. I used to play with them as a kid and put thread around them and fly them like a kite. I don't recommend this as the thread could hurt them. But just to tell you I played with many of them. They are beautiful!!!

Not here in Missouri. Mid July. I think it was all just a big scare.

They might be harmless but they freak me out. I was not raised in a state that had many of these. They do make a cool sound. I thought that they destroy/eat a lot of crops? (Ignorant human here) 😂
