I do this with a piece of card board. You can cut the cardboard, check reference spots for fitment and make adjustments. Take all the fittings off and it should go in pretty flush.

Spackle is for filling nail holes, not to be used as joint compound.

THIS video answered questions I had after having my house re-piped. I knew the plumber wouldn't patch the holes that were sure to be left, but I was sure I could do drywall patches... I've done many of them. However, it has been 30 years or so since I repaired any sheetrock! Repairing just one set of holes under the kitchen sink has taken me forever. I still have two bathrooms, and I figured there MUST be a better way to fix the drywall around the pipes under the bathroom sinks.

I have a question for you, though.

Although I've taped/bedded a lot of sheetrock, most of it 99.9% was done in the 1980s. Products and methods have both improved since then, and I have to relearn and learn anew about both! My technique is awkward, to say the least.

How would you patch a 12"x18" hole in sheetrock behind a new commode - preferably without removing the commode? The hole's right side abuts the adjoining wall's inside corner. I cannot get my hand behind the commode tank, much less a mud knife.

Thanks for any ideas!

Thanks so much!

Great advice, my laundry room configuration is almost identical, however, I have no space to put any back framing to adhere the new drywall to because the back wall is cement wall of the house. Any suggestions under these circumstances?

This is awesome. Unfortunately I can’t use this method because 1 the other side of the wall is the other side of someone else’s garage 2 the pipe is coming out at a funky angle (seriously wtf ) which means the cut won’t be a circle; it will be an oval (fk!) and 3 the wall is made of particle board. I want to slap whoever decide to convert a 3 car garage to 3 separate garages the cheapest way possible. Like why would you that? Smh 😩
