McKinsey & Co is likely the most respected management consulting firm in the world which is not surprising given that they basically invented the industry. College students and professionals alike regularly fight to get into this institution due to its prestige, influence, and compensation. But, while McKinsey & Co is respectable from a career standpoint, the same cannot be said about a business standpoint. You see, much of McKinsey’s money and influence was built through dark avenues that are beyond evil. For example, they were consulting with big pharmaceutical companies and discussing how they could artificially cause more opioid addictions. They even went as far as advising that their pharmaceutical clients pay pharmacies based on how many additions they caused. They also had significant ties with Enron and the 2008 financial crisis. Not to mention their strong connections to authoritarian governments like Saudi Arabia, the CCP, and Russia. This video explains the dark side of McKinsey & Co and why they’re the consultants that deserve hell.

Consultants is defined as hiring someone with no experience in your business to recommend changes. These changes must directly contradict what your current employees have been telling you for years. Then when the consultant has been paid, spend all your extra money implementing the changes your employees recommended long ago.

I'm Korean. McKinney consulted LG about smart phone in 2010. Their recommendation was to focus on the feature phone market with neat design. And LG was fucked up. I rather recommend chatgpting by yourself.

A long time ago, I applied to a bunch of consulting companies on a whim in school. I interviewed with McKinsey, AT Kearney, Bain, and BCG. Talking to McKinsey consultants was like living in the world of American Psycho because everybody dressed in expensive clothes and was superficially glib. I ended up joining a tech startup because I was an engineering graduate, not someone who wants to grind through a spreadsheet for 12 hours a day. One Bain consultant boasted about his stupid yacht. My father used to race yachts on a shoestring, so I wasn't impressed.

90% of the work nowadays is outsourced to consultants, so of course 9 scandals out of 10 are caused by consultants. That's plain and simple, nothing to get excited about.

I agree they are dead wight, and so are those marketing firms. Look at how many times companies have got into hot water over marketing geniuses stupid ideas. Bottom line is they both get paid, regardless of how it makes or breaks a company they claimed they could improve.
