It should be a rule for if you want to be paramedic then first go to Advanced EMT first. Learn about ACLS and starting IVs and more drugs. Learn about the different skills needed.

Yeah, I agree with you. AEMT should be done if you’re not absolutely sold on Paramedic yet. Or, you could also do AEMT if you just want the experience beforehand.

Im 31 years old and wanting to do something fulfilling and switch careers to emt/paramedic. But I worry about being too late to begin.

Went EMT to AEMT, might go paramedic or leave EMS for federal law enforcement. Something about EMS is hard on the soul for me.

I wouldn't go out to the streets unless I was in advanced DMT first.
I actually think EMT-b and EMT-a should be removed and it should be one program that makes everyone an advanced EMT. But national registry will never let that happen.

New York City doesn’t have AEMT, only paramedic, I wished EMS kept EMT-Intermediate, would have loved that before paramedic school
