Laptop Repair: Don't Let This Happen To You #shorts #laptoprepair #pc

This time, I have a 15-inch Dell XPS to repair and using my USB-C power meter, I tried the two ports on one side and saw that it was stuck at 5 volts. This meant that the laptop was not negotiating the 20 volts it needed to power on. When I checked the other side, 20 volts was achieved, but the laptop was still dead. This pointed to a motherboard issue.

Upon opening the bottom of the laptop, I found the fan stuffed with fluff and quite a bit of water damage. The smell of burnt electronics and a burnt chip explained why the laptop was not working.

Not one to back out of a challenge, I removed the motherboard and took a look under the microscope. The USB-C power delivery chip connected to these ports was burnt. Replacing a burnt BGA chip is not a fun task, but I removed the bad chip, repaired the damaged pads as much as I could, and installed a new chip. After cleaning the fans and the water damage, I reassembled the laptop to test it.

This was a difficult repair, but I was glad I could replace that BGA chip and fix the board. I charged a flat $200 for the motherboard and included a 1-year warranty.

If you have a Dell or Alienware laptop and live in the USA or Canada, you can fill out a service request form at partspeople.com and send it in. Who knows, your laptop may make it on YouTube. 😁

As a technician i will always admire people who actually do repairs instead of swapping parts, i am really grateful that technicians like you exist out there

My acer predator was almost cooked. It happened back in April, when I woke up in my hostel room, and I saw the AC leaked on my laptop, electronics and notes so badly as if they got a nice dip in the water, drippin wet. My soul left my body for a sec. Quickly took a water absorbin cloth, cleaned up the entire laptop and charger, dried up in the sun for maybe 10 mins (long time sun exposure prob is bad) and turned on the same sh8y AC to get rid of the moisture...after 3 hrs of such, went straight to a service center. I turned it on like 5 times before going for servicing, which could have been bad, but oh well. The folks at the servicing centre told me that nothing seemed wrong and I found my sigh of relief. 😮‍💨

All of my electronics: power bank, laptop, charger, phone survived with zero dmg. Idk how. These stuff got drenched in like a bucketload of water, no cap, no exaggeration.

Never thought luck would be on my side this hard😂💀

Someday someone is going to send in a pile of loose capacitors and microchips and this man is going to assemble a working (DELL) laptop.

Parts from this shop keep my old Latitude E6440 humming. Keyboard swaps are a pain on newer laptops. On my old E6440, it's a bezel popout and 4 screws. 😊
