The Burbs was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid, and continues to be. Perfect blend of comedy and spooky fun. The characters and acting are phenomenal. My favorite character is Rumsfield, played by the great Bruce Dern.

This is my all time favorite Tom Hanks comedy. When he throws himself into the ambulance, I laugh every time

Tom Hanks, Carrie Fisher. What more could you want? Filmed in the most famous neighborhood in America. Every classic sitcom like Bewitched was on that street.

I suggest the Tom Hanks comedy "The Money Pit" (1986)

Fun fact: the dog that played Queenie was the little dog in Silence of the Lambs. She was very versatile.

This film was directed by Joe Dante. He also directed the Gremlins films, Innerspace, Matinee, and Small Soldiers. He sort of created his own style, which was a terrific mix of horror and comedy. This movie is a perfect example of that. I highly recommend you check out the other films in his body of work. They're all a fun time!

This was the beauty of 1980's movies. They were just fun. They didn't all have to have a deep meaning or thoughtful plot. Just hijinks and fun. Loved this movie as a kid.... love it now.

That shot where Tom Hanks kind of just slides down the steps after the house blows up... that's gotta be a one shot take. Absolutely brilliant.

Nice reaction. The Burbs is an underrated gem. It received poor reviews initially but it gained popularity over the years. It gets better as you watch it a few times. Bruce Dern was epic in this film: "Who's going to clean up this mess? Well, you are because you are a garbage man." There are classic lines throughout this classic 🏆 🎥.

I worked on this movie at Universal as a caterer, for Continental catering. Such a nice friendly cast. Watching the house blow up was incredible. Tom Hanks was a really nice guy. Great memories.

The 'Burbs was filmed entirely at Universal Studios over ten weeks in the summer of 1988, mainly on the Colonial Street set on the back lot, which served as the Mayfield Place cul-de-sac.

The Colonial Street set had been used in 1987's Dragnet, also starring Hanks, as well as Joe Dante’s Gremlins.

At the time The 'Burbs began production, it was being used as the location for The New Leave It to Beaver television series.

The street set has a long history, spanning over 60 years of movies and television. From 2004 to 2012, it was used in the filming of the TV series Desperate Housewives, in which the street was known as Wisteria Lane. After the production of Desperate Housewives ended, the street underwent a small makeover to remove the essence of Wisteria Lane, so that it could be used in other productions. As of May 2012, most of the iconic white fencing and wisteria has been removed.

Interestingly, the house next to where Cory Feldman’s character lives, was formerly 1313 Mockingbird Lane….home to The Munsters.

Also, you might recognise Wendy Schaal (Bonnie Rumsfield). She had many guest roles in television series of the mid-1980s, most notably as Marilyn Kelsy in Airwolf. Since 2005 she has primarily worked in voice acting, most notably voicing Francine Smith in the animated comedy television series American Dad!

The actor who played Walter, Gale Gordon, was also Lucille Ball's boss on the Lucy show, back in the 60s.
There is an easter egg in this movie with a nod to that role.
When the group are in Walter's living room, look on top of Walter's TV and you will see a framed picture of him and Lucy.

Hans Klopek, the weird red-headed kid is the same guy that cut in on George McFly at the school dance. “Scram, McFly - I’m cuttin’ in!”

Art was played by Canadian Rick Ducommun, who sadly passed away some years back. Loved this movie so much I had a VHS copy, and later upgraded to a DVD copy! A ton of quotes used almost daily. I recall fixing a beer tapper in Australia at an airport for the bartendress, and when I finished said, "A soldier's way, saves the day!" then she insisted I drink for free until my flight boarded.

Art is played by longtime comedian and actor Rick Ducommun. He was Canadian (like you two!) and passed away in 2015.

This and Clue were my go-to sleepover movies as a kid. Just scary enough but nothing too traumatizing

This is a family favorite of ours growing up. It never fails to crack me up. Bruce Dern is the best in this.

24:50 you can really hear Donatello when Corey mentions pizza.

You may remember Bruce Dern (puffer vest guy) as the old man living on the ranch with the hippies in Once upon a time in Hollywood.
