I’m a northern italian, i always ate horse meat. Never really knew foreigners tought it was weird.

I'm from Italy and, even though it's not really THAT common, i have a "horse butcher" down the street.
Ofc not everyone eats it, for ethical reasons, but it's actually pretty good.
For anyone wandering:
It doesn't really taste like beef;
It has a strong iron taste (for the myoglobin in the muscles) and it's not very tender (because the horse's muscles are more trained than the cow's ones obviously), but it works really good in many dishes and it's much healthier than many other red meats.
i definitely recommend giving it a try.
P.S. *I know that in america horse meat is NOT safe to eat for the hormones that it contains, but here in Italy those hormones are banned and it's totally safe*

went to finland last year and horsemeat is banger, its basically just better ham, its slightly saltier but has a much more balanced and pronounced flavor, I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to try it

Here in Central Asia where I'm from horse meat is used in most of the dishes, it tastes better than beef or lamb and the texture is much more pleasant. For obvious reasons, we don't eat the horse that we ride, we have a special type of horses which we raise much like cows : feed them a lot of nutritious food and let them roam free in the steppes, we don't ride them & we decide the horse's role while it's still a baby. If you ever get the chance to try horse meat I'd highly reccomend you to try it.

Horse is fine to eat, outside the US. It's not banned to eat in the US because of ethical reasons, it's because of safety. Americans pump horrific things into our horses, so the FDA banned it due to safety.

Don't quote me on the next part, but I think non-american horse is legal in the US. Need to check this though.
