how to avoid sounding like touhou:
-avoid many repeats (NO Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V)
-NO Trumpets
-Don't do IV-V-iii-vi
-don't make it _too_ japanese
-avoid odd time-signatures

and yeah thats pretty much it. The most Touhou-y Undertale song is Battle against a True Hero (its pretty much Touhou) btw

okay ghost that is incoporeal and possesses a suit of armor basically fighting you while his parents who aren't possessing anything help him in the background, then later into the phase, he becomes corporeal with the armor, becoming stronger and better at fighting but now he can be attacked, that's how i'd imagine this boss fight playing out

I would recommend looking into recreation flp's to see really HOW toby makes his songs.
A great recreations who uploads some of their recreations goes by "nini", and I would highly suggest looking at their videos. (They def helped me)
