As a Halo fan, I have played all the games and read most of the books, almost all. I wish the show held closer to the games and books but have enjoyed it and all its referencing. Still holding out hope that season two will pull closer to the fabulous canon already built for Halo. There’s decades of stories to tell.

There is an Energy Dagger... first seen in Halo: Reach. Thats what the Jackals are using
