Any log that wobbles like that after it has been hit is going to dissipate all of the energy you've put into it rather than it being concentrated down through the contact point. Save yourself time and energy, make sure you have a solid splitting block and ensure your logs don't wobble.

I commend you, sir, for giving honest effort to show us the difference between two tools. I prefer lighter splitting axes, ie. husqvarna splitting axe, fiskars x27. Good working tools with reasonable price tags. Glad to see that you didn't kill yourself filming the effort. I would rather work the bark side close to me and move arounf the log myself but I don't believe your axemanship is in any fault. A lot of guys would be thinking that they could do better with their GB Small Forest Axes but I am not one of them. Let them do some honest work with hardwood rounds and grow up some. Great info. I am going to sub your channel.

Great video but, if I can't split a round in 3 or 4 swings I move on to another. Those hard to split rounds, I saw in half again and try to split later. I use Council Tools 5lb splitting axe, 6lb and 8lb splitting mauls (USA) for my splitting needs and very happy with them. I have had to cut wood into table top like pieces because they would not split except using a hydraulic log splitter, which I don't have. Happy splitting.

Interesting to see how different your oak is I'm from England and the English oak cuts and splits so easy when wet but becomes like concrete when dry this timber looks the opposite, interesting.

Some kinds of oak spit easier with the rounds sitting as they grew others with the bottom end up. At any rate that wood splits better with a maul that has convex cheeks! A harbor freight 8 pound, after a little grinding, works much better in that white oak than either of those.

I too understand what you are demonstrating but for the love of God invest in a auto splitter. Work smart not harder😨
