ZOOM R12 and R20: external send effect loop to add effects after recording // MS-70CDR+

While the Zoom R12 and R20 multitrack recorders do not have dedicated send effect loops to add external effects after recording, you still apply effects after recording with creative cable routing and panning. This tutorial will demonstrate how to use a stomp box (Zoom MS-70CDR+ pedal) to apply some reverbs and delays to previously recorded track.

Note: the cables I used in this video are standard 1/4" to 1/4" mono TS cables. I used ones that are only a foot long to minimize potential interference and line hum, but you should be able to use cables of any reasonable length.

Clever idea. Should also work to layer insert effects on the R12 without an external pedal.

Am I missing something on the R20? Input routing possible on the R12 but not the R20?

I’m assuming it’s possible to mix down selected tracks to a new track, as opposed to a complete mixdown. Is that correct ? Forgive me if you’ve covered that previously, I’ve been watching most everything R20 before I commit to buying one, and I’m not certain about that detail. I realise that it’s ’destructive editing’ if I subsequently record over the source tracks. Thanks in advance, and thanks for all the excellent information you provide. The send/receive thing is *very* useful.
