I have no problem telling you what I earn.
I work 35 hours a week as a cleaner and earn around €1, 700 net.
I live in a small town and have a cheap apartment with a rent of €480. I'm fine although of course it can always be more.
I previously worked as a manager in retail for 13 years but the job made me miserable and sick.
This makes me happier, even if the job is not highly regarded in our society.

It is a very private question in Germany. In most companies you don't even know how much coworkers are earning. Bragging is also not a virtue in Germany. Especially in Hamburg it says :don't talk about money just have it 😊

My siblings and I were always told by our grandparents and parents that "you don't talk about money. You either have it or you don't" 😉 I still feel the same way today

7:24 I worked around seven years for the same company, in basically the same position, but at one point in time I started earning more than my colleagues because I had become sort of a supervisor although I never was officially entitled as such. I just explained that with young colleagues coming in, I'd have to look over their work, which means additional work for me, and asked for a little bit more, and the boss said, alright. Just that, we didn't negotiate, but I felt fairly paid the whole time. So when that girl is new to the company, her colleague actually is her supervisor, and he's responsible for what she's doing, so of course he earns more.

Not talking about how much money everyone makes is the strongest "weapon" every employer has to pay what ever he wants to pay you. even if you´re doing the exact same work as your colleagues...

Some companys try to tell you it is a criminal thing and absolutely forbidden to talk about how much you earn.. just think why they try this trick on you ...

For my employer, it's in our contracts that we are not allowed to disclose how much we make, but that is usually considered null and void by courts if you ever were to be disciplined for it, as the employer has a duty to pay equally by law and that requires employees to discuss their salaries with one another.

But I'd struggle to give an accurate answer, as ~40% of my total compensation is stocks, which obviously vary in value and I can only ever honestly say how much I made last year. And that the amount of taxes I pay makes me want to cry...

Hey Dwayne, we have the same law in germany as in finland. You can ask your employer what every colleague earns that has the same position as you. So that you know that you are paid equally.

You call Manchester (570k pop) a bigger city but I swear I remember you saying you liked "smaller cities like Cologne" (around 1m pop).
Just found that funny is all ^^

Hi Dwayne, some tell their earnings in brutto (before you take off taxes and health-insurance) and some in netto. So you ought to listen very carefully....

Hi, Dwayne! But how much you earn also depends a bit on your age! So empoyees of a company who do the same job automatically earn different.

The costs of living (and the payments) are so very different in Germany, depending on the location - same as in the UK.
Try to live in a city with 3K payment - no chance! Living in a small village at the countryside with 1K - fine! :)

I grew up in a city in NRW and with a good salary, but I could only afford a one room flat, size: 23m² ...
I moved far away to a small village in Bavaria and had less salary. I lived as a single in a hosue, size 115m² !!! <<< and the house rent was cheaper than my small city flat!

Hamburg is the richest city/ state per capita in Germany! If you want real salaries, ask people in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern (lowest income per capita) and in East- Germany in general.

The young lady who looks after children gets only1200 euro. That is exactly the reason why we do not have enough people working in kindergardens and other social institutons. And here in Lower Saxony young people even have to pay for the training....😢

Ausgelernt 1200 brutto ist eine Lüge. Der Mindestlohn liegt bei über 12€. Vielleicht sollte Sie zunächst richtig lesen und informieren lernen. 😅

i mean if i was rich or earning like A LOT of money, i wouldn't wanna say it on tv or video either. Just out of safety concerns. You know, if someone recognizes you and they are malicious or something. Small chance but i wouldn't wanna take the risk, so i can understand that.

Peolpe who actually answered giving numbers earn less than those who would not disclose the numbers at all. It is connected with greed and greediness. The more you have, the greedier you are. Salaries in social professions are chronically bad paid in Germany. The more transparent people are with their attitude the more they make themselves fulnerable in the point of view of some others like the ones that would not disclose their fortunes.

Yes, young people nowerdays claim to know everything ... But do they though?

When you get older, you might have to pay for more things like e.g. insurances. The young ones often don't do that yet. So it's clear they need more money.

We should get over that to not talk about money because it is just a good way to pay workers less then they deserve
