Scalp Folliculitis (Boils on your scalp) By Dr Rashmi Shetty

Boils on your scalp, which is called Scalp Folliculitis, is caused by damage to hair follicles. This will usually look like red bumps or similar to acne on your scalp. What are the causes & what can u do about them;

Possible causes include:
- oily scalp - this could happen if you are not washing your hair regularly / keeping your scalp clean
- excessive friction / rubbing / rigorous massage on the scalp
- unaddressed dandruff
- build up on the scalp
- allergic reaction

What can you do about this:
- make sure you are keeping your scalp clean. Wash it regularly (every alternate day atleast)
- don’t ignore your dandruff. Try anti dandruff shampoos and if that doesn’t do the trick please visit a dermatologist
- avoid rigourous massages on the head / scalp. If you must massage, do it gently.

- inflammation can be a trigger. Avoid inflammatory foods like sugar & dairy. If you have pcos/pcod/insulin resistance - address them with your doctor.
