064 Our First Staircase Locks and Exploring the Foxton Incline Plane.

Today we leave Market Harbour and retrace out steps down the arm. Jo and George take a short cut to avoid some of the twists and turns of the canal.

Foxton Locks are buzzing, It's a busy spring, Sunday lunchtime, and the Foxton Lock Inn's garden is full of people enjoying the sunshine. The canal side too is rammed with people watching the Narrowboats come and go. Luckily there are not too many boats waiting to go up the locks and we are advised by the lock keepers that we will just need to wait 45 minutes for our turn.

The lock keeper is incredibly helpful and friendly, and seems to be as busing marshalling all the gongoozerlers as much as he is helping us.

Once we are up the 10 locks we moor up and go and have an explore. We visit the little museum and go and see the famous incline plane.

Ross Dam in Washington State had an incline plane like that, and I was able to go up with a group of people about 60 years ago but no longer is used and as of now I do not know it still exist. Our group went up first and then the bus came up after us. Last time I was on the Ross Dam Tour it wasn't being used but was still present.

Past along George's TV show to all our family. They all love George.
I do have a suggestion. Invite your viewers to come for Virtual Tea & Toast. We have found during our lockdown we go for coffee more often now (Virtually) with friends. Like David and his cheese sandwiches. You cannot imagine the huge difference between our Cheddar cheese and what you have available to you in the UK "REAL" Cheddar Cheese Yum. We can bring (Virtual) Real Maple Syrup!! ha Ha Just a thought.

What a lovely day! Yeah, a little tricky mooring with such a big audience, I bet! I loved seeing the lock volunteers letting the kids help with the locks....a lesson they won't soon forget, I'm sure.

Hallo to you 2 and of course George. It was lovely to see foxton locks again. I originate from near the town of Uppingham in the county of Rutland....about 14 miles away. When we were kids in the late 1950s early 60s we used to bike across there and be gongoozelers.. Now when we are in the UK on holiday I go there as often as possible. I now live near Düseldorf and have done for nearly 50 years. I have subscribed to your channel and have watched your flogs from Nr. 1...I have also clicked on the bell so that I get notifications when you upload a new video.

Hi folks, lovely informative video. I have spent many an afternoon at Foxton, after dining at the Inn, very nice place. I did like your explanation of the Incline Plain. I always stayed at Husbands Bosworth, so know the area well. Several visits in the past 12 years from NZ. Fantastic UK.Thank you.

More beautiful country side, you feed my soul on a rainy day. We visited 7 of the 9 Locks on the Champlain Canal system in New York yesterday on our way home from Lake George. Horrible day for boating it was a constant drizzle or light rain. Didn't let that stop me and I did get to see 1 boat pass through the lock, which was thrill. Does that now make me a gongoozler now? .

Hi guys. I have just found this vlog, I must have missed it when you put it on YouTube back in may. When I lived in the UK as a kid I was very often a gongoozler there….as me and my parents lived about 10 miles away….now when we visit friends and relations in the area I always have to go there a couple of times to get my narrow boat fix.

Don't know if it's true, but a lock volunteer at Foxton once told me that regarding the red/white sequence of opening/closing paddles, if you get it wrong you could feasibly flood the Inn at the bottom😮

I flinched when you got your phone out as I lost mine in the canal last week. As a result I didn't get to see you at Crick as I had to come home to sort out a replacement.Oh well, at least the weather has been great.
