Thanks a lot teacher, starting a physics degree in 2 months and our first course is real analysis! I started doing maths serious just a couple of months ago so your slow and precise explanations are perfect for me.

Surely you should take it one step further, to 2 + 3 = S ( S ( S ( S (1) ) ) ). You can't assume that 2 + 1 = S (2). All we are assuming is that S (1) = 2, S (2) = 3, S (3) = 4, etc.

How do you know that S(2+1) = S(3) when you haven't defined addition yet?
