I live in Washington and when this happened, it was all over the news. My grandpa told me all about it. I’m now older and I understand now. It’s still disturbing to think about it.

For those wondering it happened in November 1945
When a Lake Chelan School District bus carrying 20 students and a woman crashed into Lake Chelan.

The bus skidded off South Lakeshore Road during a snowstorm and plunged down a 30-foot embankment into the lake.

Unfortunately, 15 students and the driver drowned in the icy waters.

A search effort followed, and two bodies were recovered shortly after the accident. Navy divers searched for the bus and remaining victims for a week. The bus was eventually found on a ledge in over 200 feet of water. When it was pulled to the surface, the bodies of four students and the driver were recovered.
The remaining bodies were never found.

I actually live in Chelan Washington and this happened in 1943 and my grandpa was one of the survivors. It fell off by the three fingers where apartments are at now but used to be a landing for the three ships on the lake.
