This video introduces the Principle of Superposition for wave interference from Theme C of the IB Physics SL & HL courses. The concept of wave superposition is explained in the context of both constructive and destructive interference, with the type of interference also related to the phase difference between the overlapping waves. The impact of path length difference for two sources is then explored, illustrating the conditions for which constructive or destructive interference will occur at a location. The conditions for standing waves are also explained, using animations to show how the interference of two waves causes the standing wave pattern to form. Key features of standing waves, such as nodes and antinodes, are also introduced.
