iPhone X vs DSLR! - Hello there, and welcome to my video comparison between Apple iPhone X and DSLR camera. The DSLR used in this video is the Canon Rebel SL2 which features a 24.2 megapixel APS-C sensor. The Apple iPhone X utilizes a 12 mp dual camera setup. However for fairness of comparison, I did not use the telephoto zoom on the iPhone. The lens I used for the Canon was the kit lens, which is an 18-55 mm lens with image stabilizer. The intentions of this video is
to show you how close the iPhone comes in comparison to the Canon when it comes to image quality. Any questions, comments, concerns, please go ahead and post those down below in the comment section of this video. As always, thank you for watching and be sure to be well and peace :)

Keep in mind that the pictures taken on a DSLR can be edited to add more contrast very easily with something free like Lightroom Mobile or even just in IG. Also he shot in only automatic, if he had shot in manual, he would have had the ability to take the picture exactly to his liking. All that being said though, I think it's still fantastic that people want to take pictures as an enjoyable activity especially since getting outside to take pictures is just healthy for you mentally and physically. Even if a phone is where this hobby starts for most people, hopefully they will consider stepping into a DSLR or Mirrorless camera to explore this extremely fun and satisfying hobby even more so!

For a mobile phone camera, i think the iPhone is doing pretty well, considering the differences in sensor size and lens, im really impressed how far the mobile camera did go 👍🏻nice one Nick

The biggest missing piece in all of these arguments is that the professional and art of photography is not solely dependent on the camera. A great photographer that incorporates everything that makes up a great image (tone, subject, direction, posing, composition, lighting, planning, planning, natural eye, experimentation, use of natural light, etc can create a compelling visual using a low end DSLR or smartphone. While you give someone a $2000-$5000 DSLR who doesn't pay attention to those things nor know settings and their image might be uninspiring.

Photography is about creating an image not about having the latest gear.

In actually, I think the comparisons should really be more about whether the average person who wants to take acceptable photos "needs" a DSLR for everyday life. Smartphone have gotten so good at photos that people don't "need" a dedicated camera to produce acceptable photos for social media or even their websites.

A professional photographer however might use their smartphone's camera here and there because they are good cameras, even if they don't replace a DSLR in a professional shoot. Why? DSLRs are built to handle certain conditions, lighting, speed, etc that phones cannot emulate. Also when you show that casual, just hanging out phone photo on Instagram, it looks acceptable. However, if you are needing to shoot high fashion for an ad or billboard, you may want what DSLRs give you in terms of more control over your lighting setup, image quality, sharpness, depth of field, project flow, high quality RAW files, etc. That's not to say a great photographer couldn't produce a great studio, high fashion image with his or her phone. However, the differences will be clear during the process when you need a dedicated flash trigger for lighting, or when you need the camera to fire off multiple shots with high powered flashes, or when you blow that photo up and really see how compressed the digital information is, or when you're photographing a wedding and you need your dedicated camera to keep up with the pace.

Phones are great as cameras and have features that have eclipsed the old, cheap, consumer point and shoots. However, they are not at a level of surpassing DSLRs in terms of quality, features, control, adaptability, speed and flow. Nor does a good quality phone camera with field blur modes and digital enhancements automatically turn someone who never was a photographer into a photographer. What will turn them into a photographer is to study photography, practice it, get better at it, experiment with it and respecting the craft whether using a DSLR or phone.

At 5:31 "Just don't have the same robust controls..." PERFECT summary statement for photographers who still prefer control over most auto features. Phones are getting better, no question. I recently took some stunning glacier pictures in Alaska with my iPhone XR attachment on a pair of binoculars, giving me both optical and digital zoom. But my Canon DSLR still took better overall photography. Multi-tools are great because they fit in your pocket. But to really work on those Phillips screws, a "real" screwdriver outperforms a multi-tool every time. Same with phones and cameras. One is a multi-tool. The other a specialty tool.

You pay a lot for the iPhone but the camera and video is great.

iPhones you can use for work, media content, social media and as a camera.

I think cameras will improve even further and always be light years ahead of mobile phones.

The real test for cameras is how many people buy them.

Normally it’s professionals who buy cameras these days.

Thanks for this! I have been learning Premiere Pro with vid from my iPhone X but think I’m gonna get a Canon T6i before doing any serious work. Is there a better Canon you recommend for under $800-$1k? Mainly wanna do video not photo.
