Keep in mind that melee can't headshot, so it's not always as clear as "my melee dps is higher so I just need to keep punching." For midboss and shrines and such that makes sense, though

If you spam heavy attack (hold Q) you may also shoot 1-2 times between those attacks (hold LMB) for even more damage.
