The 5 Best Trios: Darkest Dungeon

This video discusses 5 of the best 3 person teams to build around. These aren't the only 5, but I feel that these are pretty easy to use if you don't know where to go.

Those are some pretty strong trios, but i can't really get over the lack of 3 Lepers. 3 Lepers is a pretty strong foundation, and works well with most characters in the 4th slot, even when you'd usually want to add a Leper to that Trio to fully complete it and cover its few weakspots.

A non-DLC variant of the Jestal SB comp is Jestal Houndmaster Hellion. Solves the problems with lack of range, stuns, prot enemies and comes with a guard.

I never used Occultist much in my first couple playthroughs because, you guessed it, he healed for 0 and applied a bleed at Death's Door. Now I'm digging him more though.

Idk man I think the best trio in the game is triple hellion. Damage is a synergy.

Very smart of you as a video maker to leave the team up the entire time in upper left corner when the video isn't broken up in parts, helps alot for searching. Thanks

Plague Doctor and Flagellant: Great is the weapon that cuts on its own.

Houndmaster: Does my dog count for this?

Make a early Shambler Hunting Guide, a lot of people skip Shambler in the early stages (when he is easier to deal with) and end up missing on those ancestral trinkets

Antiquarian + MAA + Grave Robber. With guard me, retribution and shadow fade you force your enemies to attack into riposte. Ideally the 4th slot is another riposter.. also you can get huge dodge buffs with MAA camp skill and antiquarian buff.

It always makes me giggle when I see Leper crit for something like 50. Like

One thing I've slept on greatly is how much I've been using Vestal as a crutch for bad gameplay. However, with proper gameplay Occultist / Crusader / Flagellant can be more effective and is much more rewarding. The single biggest reason I enjoy moving away from using Vestal in every comp is I can now use 2 backline DPS like PD / Arbalest.

You are killing it recently with the content drop! Keep up the awesome work chief!

I’ve grown fond of Highwayman, Grave Robber, and Hellion (often with Vestal making ‘Gun and Roses’). Ranks 3 and 4 die as quickly as you’d like, a well timed combo of Point Blank Shot and Bleed Out crushes rank 1, you have access to decent bleeds, and being surprised doesn’t mean anything because all three do great damage in the process of repositioning.

It works great everywhere and sometimes feels like cheating.

Hear me out, Anti-HM-MAA. Why them? Well...
Fat ripostes from Retribution's crits, Target Whistle's fat debuff and mark synergy with Hound's Rush and the funny dodge spam from Anti's Invigorating Vapours.

Bro I just got finished watching an older video of yours, I went back to home page and you posted this. Amazing.

At first I thought this was a challenge of playing the game with only 3 heroes instead of 4 for eah mission.
Nevertheless I like Hellion, Flagellant and Houndmaster for their bleed synergy, especially the Hellion's +33%dmg vs. Bleeding and the flagellant's bleed debuff. The healing in this team is really good, it has stress heal, awesome camping skills, scouting and plays very well in torchless (houndmaster whistle and hell's hairpin). Lots of crits, lots of bleeds, outside of the ruins this team is an absolute blast to play! If you're lame you can throw in a plague doc, bounty hunter, jester or vestal in this mix, but this is one of the teams where 3 might be enough amd even better against shuffling enemies because hellion and flagellant can't be pushed to rank 4.

Great content thanks, I just started playing after doing Battle Brothers and Urtuk and I'm really enjoying your guides, I had a sweet moving trio with crusader, shieldbreaker, Hwm and Graverobber, lots of fun

HWM, crusader, occultist is the trio I think I've beaten the first level of the DD with every single time. I add either a Hellion or SB to rank one and just go to town.

The SB version is probably my favorite because of how easy it is for them to shuffle around the battlefield.

i've found that crusader-jester-hwm-FL hero is another great setup; I usually use MMA but you could put anyone who doesn't care about shifting between rank 1 and 2. crusader is main healer and secondary dps, jester is stress healer and secondary dps, hwm is primary dps. I usually try to keep crusader and jester leapfrogging between rand 3 and 4 but its not an issue b/c hwm can hop around and reposition if crusader of jester gets into rank 2.

crusader and jester can take the enemy back line to task in 2 or 3 turns, hwm can take out the frontline with pointblank and duelist advance and can also redirect to the backline if necessary. The dmg across all enemy ranks is crazy and you can keep healing and stress pretty under control in the last few turns bc crusader will loose any backline targets and can only heal.

MMA works great in this team, mainly for for funneling dmg and throwing out stuns. getting riposte on him and hwm is great. I usually have him guarding hwm since he's a glass cannon, but i may guard no one or crusader if i need to throw out heals or want as many riposte procs as possible. This is my go-to team for long vetran missions and it even managed to stand up to Vvulf - though I did loose my Reynauld in that fight to bleed :(
