After being prescribed klonopin for 10 years my family doctor just stopped my .05mg abruptly. No taper, nothing. I had to ask for a taper after 5 days of hell to get me to my psychiatrist appointment. I was twitching, shaking, felt like I was out of my body. No one should ever be put through this. I agree a slow supervised taper with your doctor is the ethical way to go. I wasn't treated in an ethical manner at all. I've never abused my klonopin. I only took my .05mg at bedtime PRN. I was shocked.

Even after getting off of them I couldn't sleep for more than 3 or 4 hours a night for well over a year. Rebound anxiety and rebound insomnia is very real. It's been years and I still have much worse anxiety and insomnia than I did before taking them.

I took clonezapam for 3weeks. And I still have withdrawal symptoms for almost 24months now. Mostly breathing, weak muscles and CNS problems. It´s been a hell. But don´t give up it gets better by the day ❤️

Also depends on how long you’ve consumed the drug and how physically dependent your brain is too the drug. Also if you’ve taken this drug on an underdeveloped brain. Doing slow tapers can still be torturous. Great he recognises PAWS, post acute withdrawal syndrome. Most doctors are clueless on this subject.

I have tremors when I withdraw from benzodiazepines, like muscle spasms and more prone to anxiety attacks, I hate it!

I developed the neurological changes while taking the drug. Symptoms and signs of neurological damage can happen in tolerance. Dr seem oblivious to the long term consequences these drugs are capable of causing. As a nurse I am so disappointed in our health care system.

I am little over 4 months off of 6mg of Xanax per day. I went into a 60 day rehab and was on a 6 day taper. I had 4 seizures, was so disassociated I had no clue what was happening. I wanted to die but didn’t have the energy to kill myself. This lasted 60 days. After that I had SEVERAL panic attacks daily to the point I knew I was dying. Things didn’t let up until day 100. Absolute utter HELL. To anyone considering a taper please save yourself and do it correctly.

.5 klonopin for two years. No taper. No withdrawal. Support your liver when coming off any medication. Milk thistle… Tudca.. etc.

Well one thing I just learned by reading the comments is that withdrawing can be completely painful and terrifying. It is a conundrum.

I used Meth to get off coccaine and benzos. I immediately stopped craving coccaine and slowly stopped taking kloniphine after being dependent of benzos for 11 years. After using the stimulant i became dependent on Methamphetamine now a year and a half later ive stopped using completely. I wouldn't recommend using meth to stop taking benzos but it worked for me and yes I feel normal 😅...

40 years on. Withdrawal was a medical crisis and it didn’t stop.

I was taking 12mg-18mg of benzos PER day for 2+ years. It was removed and I was put into a 5 day Pheno taper with no benzos. It has been 34 days and I am in excruciating pain. I also don't want to get back on benzo's. What do I do?

It took me 2 years to finally feel okay after daily Xanax and Etizolam up to 10mgs a day (witch btw is in insane Amount of benzodiazepines) I got put on a Klonopin tapper 2 .5mg a day one in the morning and 1 at night at first it barely even took my withdrawal symptoms away but after a few weeks maybe about a month or so I finally felt okay enough to get up outta bed and do stuff and it just keeps getting better the longer you work with a DR to tapper

There’s not a reason why to quit them? Some people need to be on them. This is always the most mind boggling thing to me. People who can’t function without them get taken off them. Because they’re addicting. No shit, and then the smart doctor tapers them off 2 mg’s a day for years to none. Geee I wonder why he had a seizure and died?? How many years does it take to become certified to prescribe benzodiazepines? Because many doctors either don’t prescribe them because of addiction. Yet give out opiates like candy. I just don’t understand. I guess it’s a money game more people have pain then anxiety.

I took them mostly as prescribed. Had interdose withdrawals. Was diagnosed with 'Seizure Disorder Not Otherwise Specified' Was having withdrawal seizures from Benzos. The dr encouraged "cutting back where you can" Ain't hindsight grand. Haven't put any in me since July '23. Injured . "Shouldn't be in". Accurate.

Dr. B I have a question, for severe chronic pain issues do you believe that methadone is always the best way? I think S.W.I.M.
needs breakers n I just don't know if it would work since the methadone compounds soo much. So is a breaker worth asking S.W.I.M. PCP about or am I wasting time being on equivalent of over 1, 000 mg's of morphine?
