Earlier this year, a tragic incident involving a BYD Han made headlines. The vehicle caught fire after a highway collision, resulting in the tragic death of its driver. While accidents happen, what followed was a masterclass in PR deflection by BYD, leaving many questions unanswered and genuine concerns brushed aside.
BYD has been accused of various missteps, price hikes, resistance to price reductions, quality issues, and even exploiting its employees. Their PR moves, especially in the face of criticism, has been less than stellar. And then there is the fan base. Some byd enthusiasts held the company’s environmental initiatives like their carbon neutral goals. But when faced with criticism, these fans often become aggressive defenders, sometimes resorting to personal attacks.

BYD dissing Toyota’s verifiable history is laughable. Aggressive criticism only shows guilt and ineptitude.

Customer: Your cars spontaneously combust then explode

BYD: It's a feature

The F in BYD stands for Fireproof. And the S in BYD stands for Safe.

Personally I have NO desire to have a Vehicle that can be Hijacked REMOTLY or SHUT DOWN REMOTLY

I was wondering why so many cargo ships are catching fire these days. I might have figured it out.

If you buy a BYD, you better buy life insurance too.

I have a feeling that BYD is designing cars to pass the tests, so it's good on paper, rather than to produce a good product. A bit like the diesel scandal VW experienced. The airbags only deploying under certain conditions (I assume that means under test conditions) is an example. Cutting corners with the fuel tank and hybrid system is another, where the hybrid system will work in test conditions, but in real life use there are many situations where the engine will engage to keep the fuel tank from building pressure. They aim to design cars that are easy to sell, but forget that to survive long term, they need to create brand loyalty.

I'm assuming the manufacturer of the airbags are same as the ones who manufacter the tofu fire extinguishers

I'm guessing that is why BYD cars in Australia are sold via EV direct rather than the brand of BYD. It seems to be for legal benefits in the event if things going south.

BYD does for the Chinese car market what Huawei Mate 60 does for the Chinese advanced semiconductors market.

From infrastructure to homes, and from EV’s to their smart phone; it’s made just so it survives the media blitz and the time it takes to cash your check.

I think they have to be more concern about driving a car with no door than about the airbags.

Consumers are not stupid. Don't care if they're white, black, yellow, the same principle applies: what do I get for my money? Crappy products will be weeded out. Chinese manufacturers still have that mentality of hit-and-run: make stuff shiny but they don't last. We'll see how BYD will fare in Europe if their cars are crappy. Like Yugo.

Lol, they're pushing €44k here in Ireland. The dealerships are empty. To quote my husband 'I'd rather buy a Fiat' 😂 Only the Atto 3 is available for some weird reason too.

No wonder Tesla can maintain such great margines in China with higher price.

It is unwise to trust a Chinese doing business. Morality is devoid in their business strategy
