Swift dilutes expectations with just two stars for adult safety

Global NCAP released today an update to its #SaferCarsForIndia crash test results. Following last month’s announcements, the Maruti Suzuki Swift falls short on adult safety.

The latest version of the Maruti Suzuki Swift with standard double airbags, and ISOFIX (i-size) anchorages, reached two stars in Adult Occupant Protection and two stars for Child Occupant Protection.

The two star result for adult occupants is due to high compression to the driver chest, unstable structure and poor protection for the feet explained by pedal displacement on the driver side. The Child Occupant Protection of only two stars is explained by the forward facing positioning of the 18 month old dummy in the test offering low protection and also the low protection offered to the chest of the 3 year old dummy.

In comparison to its predecessor tested by Global NCAP in 2014, the new Swift offers two standard airbags and I-size approved anchorage points for CRS which demonstrated a two star performance in safety tests. However comparing it to its twin model for the European market, the Indian version underperformed in the frontal crash test and is offering less safety features like side body and curtain airbags and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) that are standard for Europe, in India are not even optional.

Oh no, even their Brezza got 4 stars. Why Maruti you play with Swift in India. Indians are now aware of GNCAP.

feel bad for my close friend, I convinced him to buy tata nexon, he said Maruti service, again I convinced him to buy Hyundai i20 if not tata, he said Maruti service and ended up with dzire, but now he has to pay like hell for the service even though they service good, they even changed engine oil in the first service for money, now the safety nightmare comes, only to tell him 'I told you so'

India spec Swift doesn't have the TECT body structure (Not to be confused with the HEARTECT platform) which is present in Euro/Japanese spec Swift. Hence the lower rating compared to its global counterparts. All the Nexa cars ( S-Cross, Ciaz, Baleno and Ignis) are equipped with TECT body structure which is essentially the use of high tensile steel to increase the body shell rigidity and thereby increase crash protection. The same is prominently advertised in their brochures. The only non Nexa car to have the same shell is the Vitara Brezza. That's the reason why the body shell remained stable and it received a decent 4 star rating. So far none of the Nexa cars have been tested by Global NCAP. But it's safe to assume that they'll indeed fare better than the Swift.
It's a shame Maruti chose not to make such an important technology standard along with ABS (Global NCAP later clarified that the Swift indeed have 4 channel ABS) and airbags on all their products.
Whatever I just mentioned can easily be verified by visiting the Maruti Suzuki, Nexa and Global Suzuki websites.

Note these wordings
"However comparing it to its twin model for the European market, the Indian version underperformed in the frontal crash test and is offering less safety features like side body and curtain airbags and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) that are standard for Europe, in India are not even optional."

This is pathetic. "Unstable structure" is absolutely unforgivable. That means they consciously engineered it to be Less safe than they could have. They know that the average Indian consumer cares two hoots about safety and milks it to the hilt.
I would rather buy a base Nexon than a loaded Swift.
PS : I already own a Swift, and yes I am disappointed.

All your tests show all front rigid wall impact, offset and side impact. Why isn't that there for Swift?

Lots of Indian people boast about the quality of Mahindra, Renault and Suzuki, but these cars crumple like a cookie.

In another news, Swift is the best selling car in India. 22, 000 Swift and 21, 000 Dzires sold in India in September, 2018 alone. ;(
:(:(:(

This shows how Maruti treats with it's premium cars ( Brezza, S cross ) and it's less premium cars. Seriously pay close to 10 lakhs for top end Swift and get 2 stars. Then why are we even paying them. Hate to say but Indians are really bad at choosing cars. Even in Maruti top end Swift owners have Brezza and S cross to choose from as well instead of a 10 lakh swift.

I think their heartect platform is at a loss. The tect one used in Brezza, S cross and grand Vitara ( abroad ) performs well in crash test.
Yet we will see the next month's chart and Swift will be right there at the top.

The a pillar looks stable. Yet the structure is unstable.
