From my experience there are pretty big differences In what we’re allowed and trained to do

I started my nursing career as an LPN, kept going to school, obtained my BSN- RN, and then went up to my DNP. I can honestly say there are many differences, and the scope of practice differs. Maybe she refers to the long-term care setting, but it is different, and no, I didn’t become an RN because I wanted to be a CRNP; I became an RN because I wanted to be able to practice in acute care settings and not be limited. I wanted to work in critical care and open heart, and LPNs do not have the scope of practice in dive lines or drips. I have much respect for all nursing, but it is essential to know the difference.

Thats like saying CNAs can do that same job as LPN, absolutely not. When I become a LPN I will not let anyone make me do the job of an RN. People are weird out here. Once a nurse tried to give me a cup of meds to give out and I told her "NO Ma'am, I'm only a CNA".

Honest answer: RNs have a more broad scope of practice.

RNs:
1. administer IV push meds
2. Start blood transfusions
3. Oversee and delegate to LPNs & CNAs
4. Perform comprehensive assessments
5. Create care plans

This just a few examples.

In California the pay difference is huge. The job options are more diverse for an RN. There's so many differences it's not even the same job. People who have started as an LVN/LPN and then educated up to an RN do make better RN's, just like people who start as CNA's make better LVN's. There are things you just can't learn from school. Doing the job gives you experience and understanding of your work colleagues.

Last I knew there were quite a few differences between an RN and a LPN. For one example I know in the state of NC, where I live, LPNs could not hang blood; that may have changed by now as I’m 52 and retired due to health reasons. I also know there used to be a pretty big pay difference. I love ❤️ nursing and All nurses and CNAs regardless, we need ALL of you !! God bless. 🙏🏼❤️

I’m with you. I’m an LPN in NJ as well and will be done with my program by April for my RN. LPN’s are completely underutilized in NJ. The salary difference is massive. This lady is what I would like to call a weenie whiner. She should quit tithing her earnings and save.

In California, there are some major differences, although I know that in some states, LPNs can do more. Essentially, I was taught that the major difference is the assessments, education, IV pushes, and care plans.

My mother never stopped being a nurse and having concerns for patients while she was a retired nurse in a medical facility. The best word about my mom came from a daughter whose mom was across the hall from my mom. She stated my mom who was mobile would visit her mom in the room across the hall. She talked to her mother and called for help when her mother was in distress and could not navigate the call button. The daughter told me my mom helped her mom relax and cross over since she was in hospice. I never expected to have that conversation with anyone. My mom really cared about helping people versus the young lady in the video who seems to be in it for the money.

The hospital in our area doesn't hire LPN only RN now

Im an RN in state of Ohio, work with LPNs on advanced care, they cannot do IV push meds, blood/blood products, or start the first drip but can maintain also cant do first assessment on new admit. Also may be specific to the LPN but i had to pull picc lines for them. They said they werent allowed to? That could just be a gray area of not truly knowing if they should/can. And ive met a ton of LPN that say they should of just gotten their RN to start with.

Loud and wrong 😂. She can't take care of me. She couldn't even get the differences between the two correct. And yes, I am an LPN going back for my RN.

But there can be a difference. Certain skills, pay, and, tasks. It can be a pretty large gap. Most of the LVNS/LPNS I know transition to RNs. The cheapest route for an RN is through the ADN process. And honestly depending on the program it can be decently cheaper to get your RN instead. In my state the pay gap is about 10 dollars. If you're gonna do what an RN does, get paid the same as a RN.

I was an RN in LTC and I can definitely say that I was paid more. I overheard nurses say how much they were getting paid after they got a raise. I had just started and I was making more than experienced LPNs. I was also able to remove midlines. There were some things I was able to do that LPNs could not, but a lot of them were facility protocol. In the hospital I can administer blood and there are some units that do not hire LPNs. There have been studies that have shown a decrease in patient mortality when there are more RNs than LPNs working in the hospital. That mortality decreases further when there are more RNs with a BSN. We need all nurses whether they are LPNs or RNs.

LPNs can work NICU, ER, LTC, anywhere really. Where do you work to think LPNs only be in LTC?
