HOW TO REDUCE YOUR HANDICAP - EPISODE 2 - IMPROVE DRIVER STRIKE

I get the question a lot and it is a hard one to answer as everyone brings something different to the table when playing golf.

The question is 'how do I reduce my handicap'?

Well in this video and episode we will be looking at how Lee has moved from a handicap of 18 to 9 in less than 12 months.

Lee has a skill that allows him to hit the ball a long way and we had to work hard to build his confidence to enable him to start using his driver to his advantage.

Join us as we follow Lee's journey and hopefully you can pick up a few tips also.

For those without a GCquad, 18 months ago I started to use dry shampoo spray on the club face which shows strike. Its a big help to know where you are actually hitting the face of the club with the ball. My drive strikes were a bit low and so I increased tee height to fix that one (and to allow me to hit more up on the ball). Dan did a vid on this too I think. There are quick and cheap ways to get an idea of what is going on. Testing Lester must be a hard job Dan, how do you get him to concentrate !

Going to use tape on the mat when I'm next on the range to create a gate drill, and having an image of swinging inside it. Also will use foot spray to dial in the strike location. Gonna do this for both driver and irons.
Dan, you are literally my favourite golf youtuber and I thank you for vlogs. Regards. 👍

Kudos to Lee for his good-nature concerning his strike pattern. On the plus side, though, only ONE appeared to be below the equator.

I've been playing golf for 30 years. 13 handicap now, I 've tried so many things with variable results but this video was like taking the blind covers off. I've worked on hip rotation, grip, angle of attack - you name it, I've watched some video on it and tried it. How many times have friends said to me - " slow down mate, relax..." Today is the day - playing in a 8 ball 2 groups, big internal. Hope it works! Thanks guys. Great stuff.

What a great video!
This is a subject that doesn’t get enough attention. In the age of “Strokes Gained” where, when it comes to the Driver, the emphasis is on distance, distance, distance what is not expressed often enough is that if a good strike isn’t achieved all that extra effort in swinging faster is for naught. Swinging faster & hitting the ball further is only helpful if the ball stays on the planet. It seems to me that, particularly for amateurs the whole Strokes Gained methodology has the potential to pull the golfers’ focus away from “strike location” and ends up leading to poor results & frustration.
Another great video guys.

Ooh what's this?.... a cheeky little video released in the daytime. Feels like an early Christmas present. Thanks guys. I still think Lee's right knee, that initial move backwards as he straightens it, needs sorting. It must do someone to his hip movement. Restrict it and possibly change the angle of its rotation. Great video and that GC Quad is just brilliant.

Strike is something I’ve worked on thanks to video content like this highlighting it. never covered during a lesson, which is where I think golf coaching (certainly my experience of it) is wrong as it’s geared towards instant fixes that don’t last rather than working on skills like this that will actually improve you long term

Started using this drill a few years ago it helped then and I still go back to it when I feel that I’m losing the ball on impact.

That’s one of the best vids I’ve seen, comes just at the right time for me, would love to see a review of Lee’s journey so far, analysing what changed and where the improvement has been made?

Smashing the tee as Lee did gets it out of the top half of the face. Getting comfortable with your stock swing gets it out of the center.

Thanks Dan, I’ve always had a scattergun approach across face, particularly driver. Slo-mo gate drill looks way to go to add to my practice regime for the long term benefits! 👍

Fantastic vlog Dan. I have the exact same problem as Lee with spraying the driver all over the place. What you said today makes all the sense in the world. That will be my focus for the winter. Thank you. 👍🏾

Terrific that Dan, yes I will be focusing on strike when I go to the range today and then play 9 holes. Great to see Lee's face when he found that he still swung the club quickly even though he wasn't thinking about it.

Super work boys. I tend to be a bit of a toe striker generally and have used an empty golf ball sleeve to the inside of my club. Amazing how a gate or part gate really does help with strike. Go Lee. Race you to scratch!!

Timely video. I can't seem to hit anything, but the bottom half of the driver face lately. They are consistent, and in play, but killing my distance.

finally something that will truly help golfers and not just about distance
