Actress Susan Sarandon joined the Film Society to discuss her new film 'The Meddler.' Film Society Free Talks are sponsored by HBO.

It is hard to imagine American movie culture without Susan Sarandon. From her fearless work in Bull Durham to her Oscar-nominated performances in Thelma and Louise, Lorenzo’s Oil, The Client, and Atlantic City and Oscar and SAG Award-winning role in Dead Man Walking as Sister Helen, a nun consoling a death-row inmate, she has been a staple of great cinema for decades. Sarandon’s new film, The Meddler, is directed by Lorene Scafaria and opens April 22. In it, she plays Marnie, a widow who moves to Los Angeles from New York to smother her single daughter, Lori (Rose Byrne), with motherly love. But when Lori draws strict personal boundaries, Marnie finds ways to channel her eternal optimism and forceful generosity to change the lives of others, as well as her own. Sarandon will give insight into The Meddler as well as her dynamic career in both film and television.

I'd forgotten how much I really enjoy listening to Sarandon being interviewed. She's met a lot of people, worked with everyone, worked on a lot of issues, not to mention starring in some landmark films. Yet you get the sense she could sit down and talk to anybody - she really has a special, very unusual gift.
