To me, The Lotus Eaters, Wild Swans and The Mighty Wah, three most beautiful but underrated bands ever, the music goes on ❤

I picked this album up in 1987 in a hole in the wall store's bargain bin in Wellesley MA. Been a top 10 "new wave" album since then, especially this song. But the other 9 are not far behind. Love Paul Simpson's voice.

If I hadn't bought the Sire Music Sampler (vol 2) I would have never heard this brilliant song. How was it not a huge hit?

I can still remember the massive fan blowing all that paper about - I still haven;t figured out what it was meant to represent...

Not to be reductive but this is the final and longstanding proof that theres no such thing as too much reverb or chorus.
I remember setting off for a heartbroken train journey from the North in 1989 to stay with my sister in London. The subject of my unrequited love was, by chance, on the same bus into town as me and we made awkward conversation if you can even call it that, following an awkward declaration of love in a club with sticky carpets, an excess of Dubonnet and lemonade and the scent of white musk and patchouli a few nights previous.
Bringing Home the Ashes was, inexplicably, in an HMV bargain bin near the station for 99p. The cover looked interesting. I was skint and needed something to listen to on my cheap portable cassette player.
It not only got me through the journey on repeated playings and entranced my older sibling shortly after my arrival at her place, it affects me greatly 35 years later.

Love this song. I bought Bringing Home The Ashes when it came out and still listen to it today. Quite New Orderish but they've got their own thing going on as well.
