Great take, Marques! Exciting day for Right to Repair for sure. Let us know if you need any help with that iPhone repair. 👀

Let's see if this winds up being for real, or a joke like IRP. Skeptical optimism this time.

Apple is training their costumers for when they send the iPhone without a battery.

Big W For R2R. But something Is telling me Apple had this planned for quite a while.

I love how it's, "What's the catch?"

Even authorized Apple repair shops aren’t allowed to replace just a microphone or a charging port. All even they can basicly repair on site are battery, screen and cameras.

Everyone: It’s just batteries, screens, and cameras.
Me: Im surprised they did cameras

I'm still going to refrain from getting overjoyed until I see the prices for the individual replacement parts. There's always a catch when it comes to Apple.

I think its important we recognise all of the people who fought Apple to get this right to repair! Many people lots their businesses and all of their money fighting Apple in court. It's a great victory for us as a consumer but give props to the guys that won the battle for us!

Louis Rossman is a hero for being a huge public voice when it comes to R2R.

Happy to see these small steps being taken to make consumer repairs more accessible

(Edit): After re reading my comment a couple of times and checking up more right to repair stuff I realized that I’m doing a huge part of the Right To Repair Advocates such as *Ifixit, Hugh Jeffries and iPad rehab, ect* (as mentioned in a reply) wrong by not mentioning them is this as they are equally as big a voice as Louis was :)

My cynical mind is saying this is a way for Apple to point and say, 'See?! We're allowing customers to repair their own devices!' Because they _know_ that the vast majority of people with broken Apple products will not opt for this method.

Until more details are made available, and until independent repair shops have all the uncomplicated access, I'll be looking at this sideways.

I hope all smartphone brands will do the same. Finally, a good step in the right direction.

So as someone that worked with apple repairs in a certified shop, I can just see all of the hoops that you will have to jump through in this process and the cost of the parts is going to be pretty steep.

Louis Rossman does a breakdown of this move as it mirrors a similar one Apple took years back to convince congressmen to NOT make policy changes. They would say "look this right-to-repair group is just complaining, we already give access, there is no reason to sign this new bill." Only time will tell if this move is genuine or another attempt to manipulate the situation.

Only thing that went through my mind was "what's the catch?"
You can see what they did with the repair program for independent shops. Which sounded good but ended up just being something they did to impress the court of law.

what i worry about is their gonna charge a ridiculous amount for the replacement parts. And their gonna make it extremely easy for people to break intentionally and then because they damaged it themselves they wont get a warranty claim

Apple: Sell parts at high price to individuals.
Individuals: messed up the self repair, go back to Apple support or qualified repair shop.
Apple: win to win = I win twice.

Shout out to Louis Rossman who’s been on Apples back on this issue for years.

No doubt this a culmination of everyone’s work but Rossman really put this on peoples radar and got the ball rolling

Apple has anyway just 4 options to repair.
1. Display change
2. Camera repair
3. Battery change
4. Rear system change (basically taking the old camera and display from your device and put it in a new system with battery)

I love how Marques points to himself when he says "This is a great step for Apple" 6:07
